VCU Health
Systems Speech Pathology is seeking an hourly Speech
Pathologist. The Speech Pathologist Clinician I is a novice to an advanced
beginner level of practice, particularly as it relates to a hospital based
setting. The Speech Pathologist I is able to perform assessments and
therapeutic interventions with the routine patient population. They support
team endeavors by performing department and/or team tasks, problem solving and
intervention skills. The Speech Pathologist I may orient other allied health
professionals to their field upon the successful completion of their CFY year
with the approval of the Department Manager. Speech Pathologist I Clinician may
provide student experiences per approval of the Coordinator of Student
Supervision. ResponsibilitiesPerforms
the following for patients with mild to moderately complex communications
and/or swallowing disorders - schedule frequency and intensity of therapy;
select assessment instruments and administer assessment; interpret results;
complete documentation; plan and carry out treatment strategies; develop long-
and short-term goals; perform patient/family/staff education; report at
patient/family/team conferences; and terminate therapy when appropriate.Supervisor
or SLP II or higher provides advice/guidance/training regarding clinical
skills, professional practice, ethical behaviors, billing, caseload management,
educational opportunities, documentation and patient care for patient issues or
when requested by staff.SLPs with
their CCCs may provide student supervision if deemed competent to do so by
Department Manager or Coordinator of Student Interns.Ability to
cross cover units not assigned as SLPs primary units of responsibility, after
being oriented to unit and deemed competent for that patient population (if
significantly different from typical unit assignments); this includes covering
outpatient, rehab and inpatient units in addition to SLPs primary location
weekend rotations required. Qualifications RequiredMasters
Degree from an ASHA accredited program in Speech and Language PathologyCompetes
required learning exchange coursesCurrent
license by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a SLPCurrent
CCC in SLP. For CFY incumbents,
completion of CFY and awarded a CCC, at conclusion of 1st year of employmentCPR
graduate/CFYs to SLPs with less than two (2) years of experienceStrong
Clinical Fellowship Year candidates will be consideredPrevious
clinical experience with evaluation/ treatment of neurogenic, motor speech,
linguistic/cognitive communication disorders and swallowing disordersPrevious
experience performing swallow studies including MBS and bedside assessmentsPrevious
experience planning and executing treatment PreferredMinimum of
one (1) to two (2) years of experienceClinical
rotations during graduate training in medical settingPrevious
experience with computer-based documentation systemsPrevious
experience with trach management as related to swallowing and communication disordersPrevious
experience managing complex swallowing and/or communication,
linguistic/cognitive disordersPrevious
work experience in a critical care settingExperience
with dysphasia including MBS and bedside swallow evaluationsPrevious
work experience in a similar practice setting (e.g. critical care, long term
care, outpatient, etc.) PRN 1: Days Masters degree is required Appropriate licensure is required Certification required per job description Computer skills are required Customer service skills are required Excellent communication skills are required Experience is preferred
