Qualified candidates will have knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts including the ability to produce detailed drawings of designs, tolerance analyses, performing experimental designs and writing material specifications. Will also have knowledge of component and mechanism design, plastic part design, sheet metal enclosure design, mechanical assembly, injection molding and other manufacturing processes. Must be capable of working with little or no supervision. This is a fast-paced job, qualified individuals must be capable of setting priorities, generating plans and schedules, juggling multiple tasks and projects and meeting schedules and deadlines.

Duties and Responsibilities: Design high quality, reliable medical products such as reusable instruments, low cost electrosurgical disposables, and electrosurgical generators. Engineering leadership of all phases of design, development, component procurement, assembly, test, validation, and manufacturing support of the companys medical products. As a project or sub-project leader this individual may indirectly supervise and direct others such as other engineers, drafters, and laboratory technicians. Planning and leading the design of mechanical portions of new products. Cost reduction redesign of products. Solving design and manufacturing problems on existing product lines. Generation of design requirements, system architecture, project plans, and related material. Conceptual design, detailed design, CAD modeling, prototyping, and troubleshooting. Design analyses including theoretical calculations for component fit and tolerance analysis and stress calculations. Development of written protocols, reports, and presentations related to design activities. Performing and/or supervising the testing of new and existing products and test reporting. Serve as a technical resource for other departments in the company. Verification and validation testing. Delivery of work products to an agreed upon schedule.

QualificationsLeave your footprint Five (5) to Ten (10) years experience in product design is required. Extensive proficiency designing with engineered materials is required. Extensive proficiency in medical products design is required. Experience using kinematics for miniature mechanism systems is beneficial. Extensive proficiency designing components for various manufacturing techniques including: machining, injection molding, extrusion, electrical interconnection methods and sheet metal enclosures is required. Experience in design and development of surgical and/or electrosurgical instruments is beneficial. Experience in design of single use disposable products is beneficial. Experience with formal design and development methodologies, including configuration management and engineering change control is required. Extensive proficiency with design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) is required. B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent). Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Visio, and PowerPoint. Proficiency in 3-D CAD software such as Pro Engineer or equivalent is required, expertise is desired. Ability to use ANSYS for structural or thermal finite element analysis is beneficial. Statistics package such as MiniTab is beneficial. This individual must utilize many inputs such as vendor specifications, peers, publications, and libraries to outline a solution method for problems. The problem, solutions or a number of solutions and recommendations must be clearly presented for management review when necessary. Capable of doing secondary (literature) and primary (experimental) research using experimental situations with limited supervision. Ability to provide high quality engineering documentation such as verbal and written reports, and engineering drawings per ASME Y14.5M-2009 is required. Strong analytical and problem solving skills such as finite element, statistics and experimental designs is required. Experience with statistics package such as MiniTab is beneficial. Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources into robust solutions is required. Proven ability to apply the basic laws of physics and possesses a strong mechanical aptitude. Proven ability at performing tolerance stack analyses is required. Frequent sitting, walking, and standing. Ability to move between departments. Exposure to normal electronic lab hazards, such as high voltage, hazardous materials, and sharp instruments is possible. Light physical effort - lifting or moving up to 40 pounds.
