Drive the profitable growth of an Employee Benefits (EB) block of business aligned with EB Sales geographic regions. This is accomplished by leading an EB Regional Underwriting team including managing a team of National Account Underwriters who have direct responsibility for underwriting our most complex cases and a Manager, Risk Management [or title to be determined]. The Manager, Risk Management leads a team of underwriters who manage the profitable growth for the block of non-National Account customers for the designated Sales region. The Senior Director, Risk Management is primarily responsible for developing and implementing a business plan by working closely with all other departments engaged in the sale and service of EB customers, to achieve growth and profit targets for the assigned region.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead EB Underwriting team to achieve EB s profit and growth goals. Collaborate with other members of EB leadership team (underwriting, actuarial, sales, benefits, customer service, legal, compliance, marketing, medical underwriting).

Apply appropriate underwriting guidelines, procedures, provisions and insurance statutes. Requires analysis and evaluation of multiple factors to resolve complex issues. Makes decisions and recommendations for new processes and procedures. Requires a high degree of innovation and ingenuity. Responsible for achieving financial and customer service goals for the assigned block of business.

Responsible for creating, maintaining, enhancing region specific strategy for profit and growth and customer service in cooperation with regional EB sales management including short and long term business planning.

Manage national account underwriters and the Manager, Risk Management. Responsible for consulting and approving national account prospects and inforce customers. Responsible for leading the Manager, Risk Management who oversees day to day team operations and the non-national account block.

Responsible for creating a highly engaged work environment focused on continuous growth of underwriting talent and business acumen.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience: Advanced knowledge of risk analysis and underwriting philosophy, including experience analysis and alternate funding. Demonstrated ability to lead, train and develop underwriters and leaders to achieve desired business results. Demonstrate ability to make good decisions regarding business that can have a material impact on overall corporate financial results. Utilize negotiation, presentation, and communication skills to present, defend and sell those decisions to achieve desired results.

Education: Bachelor s degree in business or related subject, and/or 10 years of progressively responsible experience in group insurance risk management and seven years progressively responsible experience in a management position.

Professional certification required: FLMI or CEBS preferred.

Occasional travel nationally
