JOB DESCRIPTIONJob Summary
SUMMARY The Endoscopy Technician, under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or physician, assists the physician with GI endoscopy procedures. The employee is assigned duties related to preparation for, assisting with, and room turnaround activities for procedures, to include cleaning and processing of endoscopes and accessory equipment. Other duties include general patient care and unit maintenance as delegated by licensed personnel.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Prepares room, equipment and supplies to accommodate planned procedures. Demonstrates proper use of procedure software; enters patient data properly. 2. Assists the physician with endoscopy procedures; demonstrates knowledge of the aim of the procedure, the steps, the pertinent observations, and possible complications. Properly handles specimens. 3. Demonstrates proper use, handling, and cleaning, disinfecting/sterilizing of endoscopes, equipment and accessories. Assists in cleaning room as needed. 4. Maintains work environment by restocking and cleaning rooms. Independently performs assigned cleaning tasks and documents on checklists. 5. Supports and upholds established hospital and department policies, procedures, and standards. Reports observed variances in practices to department management. 6. Demonstrates working relationship skills. Communicates effectively with team members - patients, physicians, visitors, and employees in a courteous, friendly, and helpful manner. 7. Productivity/Use of Time - Organizes time effectively and sets priorities. Utilizes time between heavy workloads efficiently and helps other team members. Reviews reading file. 8. Demonstrates the componets of the I CARE values statement. 9. Demonstrates ServicePride standards (smiles and makes eye contact; greets each patient and visitor; seeks out patient and visitor contact; displays appropriate body language at all times; takes 5 minutes each day to go above and beyond for 1 patient or visitor; honors diversity; thanks every customer). 10. Follows all safety rules while on the job. Reports accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards. 11. Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Level I: A minimum of 1 year of experience providing patient care in a clinical setting Level II: A minimum of 5 years of experience as an Endoscopy Tech at TMH
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED Basic Life Support certification. (BLS)
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED 1. Level I: General competency skills, unit specific skills. Basic use of computer - data entry and troubleshooting. 2. Previous endoscopy experience is preferred. Extensive on-the-job training is necessary without previous experience. Hospital and department inservices are required and continuing education courses are encouraged. Good verbal, communication and organizational skills. 3. Flexibility. Level II: Performs Level 1 skills and competently performs at least 70% of advanced therapeutic skills (see Addendum A) Staffs the on-call rotation Overall performance at above average rating.
