General Summary :

Responsible for the design and development of mechanical components and systems to be used in therapeutic medical devices

Essential Functions :





* Design drive train for efficiency and durability in capital equipment





* Develop early stage concept to commercial design





* Work closely with electrical/systems engineer to ensure proper integration





* Design interface with disposable component, interchangeable parts for surface





* Manage external vendors in the fabrication of components and assemblies.





* Perform or oversee system and component testing (e.g. tensile, fatigue)





* Write verification test plans, protocols and report





* Create mechanical drawings, specs, and schematics





* Work with manufacturing engineers to develop assembly instructions





Required Skills

Skill Requirements :





* Ability to apply user feedback to design solutions





* Ability to design experiments, analyze data sets and draw conclusions





* Extensive hands-on experience and approach; ability to rapidly create, troubleshoot, and iterate on prototypes, familiar with basic machine shop equipment





* Excellent written and verbal communication skills





* 3D CAD experience (SolidWorks)





* Knowledge of fabrication processes used in volume manufacturing (e.g. injection molding, casting) Ability to work within schedule constraints and clearly communicate design challenges and solutions





Required Experience

Education/Training/Experience Requirements





* Minimum of 10 years related experience





* BS required in mechanical engineering or related field

Preferred Experience :





* Experience working with drive train and embedded systemsExperience with custom motor design
