SolarCity is looking for a Sr. Performance Engineer who will play a key role in the research and technology group. S/he will be an expert in analyzing, predicting and improving the performance of PV modules and arrays in outdoor and indoor scenarios.
Apply device physics knowledge to understand the performance characteristics of solar modules
Model and optimize the optical parameters of solar cells and modules
Analyze outdoor module performance data to determine degradation mechanism
Perform data mining of large performance data base
Perform modeling with PV energy simulation tools (eg. PVsyst, Helioscope, SAM)
Analyze large performance monitoring database, and perform residual analysis to evaluate difference between predicted and actual performance
Develop new performance analysis tools, utilize and review existing analytical tools to quantify performance of operating solar systems
Perform spice simulations for PV modules and diode circuits
Collaborate with cross-function technical teams to meet company milestones and objectives
MS or PhD Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
3 years of relevant work experience; Experience in the solar industry preferred
Proficiency in scripting languages (eg. Python, Matlab, VBA, sql) and expert level knowledge in PVsyst
Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (eg. 2008/2011 NEC) and PV racking designs and concepts
Expert level knowledge in design and assembly of data acquisition systems
Able to work outdoors and on top of roofs to perform necessary inspections
Able to lift 50 lbs.
Willing and able to travel up to 20% of the time, both domestically and internationally
Detail-oriented, resourceful and able to manage shifting priorities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
Ability to positively and effectively interact with internal and external customers
Regular, reliable and predictable performance required
Ability to work well with others in a collaborative team environment
Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment criminal screen. Additional pre-employment driving and drug screens may be required based on job responsibilities
