The selected candidate will independently work on assignments involving design of pipe supports for Xcel Energy�� s Monticello and Prairie Island nuclear generating plants in Minnesota, work location will be in Frederick Md. Duties include prepare/check pipe support calculations and sketches; attend kick-off meetings at job sites as well as in the office, and define scope of work. Provide timely input to the group lead and the EGS. Review supplier documents, scope books, specifications, engineering guides and standards, etc. Efficiently utilize automation tools including GTSTRUDL, FAPPS and BASEPLATE computer programs during the support design and checking process. Accept technical and administrative direction from the group supervisor during the preparation of support designs, and direct the work of other support engineers during the execution of assigned tasks. Interface/coordinate with clients, stress analysts, construction and suppliers during the preparation of support designs. Work on more than one task at any given time. Prepare and check support designs that consider ease of construction and consider total installed cost. Recommend changes to support designs that will result in simplified support schemes. Plan and schedule the assigned work and staffing needs to meet the project milestones. Coordinate and travel to job sites as required on an as needed basis. Business trip durations will be a few days to a few weeks. Obtain unescorted access badge to various nuclear plants and perform field walkdowns to obtain information for input to design change packages. Walkdowns at job sites may consist of:
climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, and working in confined spaces.

Basic Qualifications
Grade 25:
8 to 12 years of pipe support design experience on a power project.
Grade 26:
12 to 15 years of pipe support design experience on a power project.
Professional Engineering registration
5 years experience working on Nuclear power projects
Applicants must have the right to work/remain in the U.S. and must be capable of passing necessary background and drug checks to obtain a badge at a nuclear facility.
Knowledge of the application / use of pipe support hardware.
Knowledge of industry standards, design criteria, and relative codes.
Experience in generating / checking pipe support calculations.
BS degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering.
Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication in English

Hands on use of CAD program
Previous experience working at/on Monticello or Prairie Island
