Job Description

At MorphoTrust our System Engineers lead the technical execution of our programs, establishing the cadence and implementing processes to define and manage business and technical requirements, control changes to the technical baseline, mitigate technical risks, and minimize costs over the life-cycle of our projects. Our Sr Principal System Engineers are assigned to our most complex programs, including those intended to replace our motor vehicle agency (MVA) customers aging mainframe computer-based solutions. They must have a thorough understanding of MorphoTrust products/solutions and organization structure. Successful candidates will be technically strong, highly effective communicators with the emotional intelligence to manage stressful situations and be thorough, conscientious, and customer-focused.

Job Responsibilities

Requirement Specifications and Solution Architecture:

* Provide leadership for cross functional teams and customer engagements in formulating requirements, advise alternative approaches, and conduct feasibility studies

* Perform system engineering analyses including trade studies, use case development, requirements definition and derivation, interface definition, and requirement validation and verification

* Analyze user requirements, concept of operations documents, and high level system architectures to develop system requirements specifications

* Allocate system-level requirements to lower level requirements

* Develop system architecture and system design documentation following adopted best practices

* Generate system/element level functional, performance, and interface specifications to document and control the achievement of the desired capabilities

* Communicate desired component relationships to a diverse group of customers, developers, engineers, subject matter experts, and users

* Identify critical external interfaces early in the program life cycle and mitigate technical risks related to integration through the use of system engineering tools and techniques, including but not limited to data mapping, logic tables, data recording, and the development of simulation capabilities

* Maintain system and component baselines in a requirement management system, defining the relationships between internal and external components

* Participate in the sales process by supporting proposal development, quote generation, and solution presentations

Testing:

* Orchestrate overall test philosophy and structure, coordinating logistics and supporting infrastructure

* Support integration engineers and QA personnel in the development of Test Cases and Test Procedures

* Manage personnel in all aspects of test activities, providing technical advice and resolving implementation problems

* Analyze problems found during system test and implement fixes in accordance with configuration management best practices

System Engineering Management:

* Guide system development and implementation planning through assessment or preparation of system engineering management plans and system integration and test plans

* Interface with team members, management, and customers to ensure high quality products are produced on time and within the resources available

* Train less experienced personnel in requirement development techniques

* Act as a technical interface to working level counterparts

* Prepare, evaluate and implement corrective plans based on metrics, ensure system readiness and integrity, establish and provide estimates, schedules, and written proposals

* Provide technical direction and clarification to development teams, integration engineers, and QA/test personnel

* Attend customer and technical meetings and represent the company in matters pertaining to the development and progress of the project

* Identify and define changes in requirements and to the technical baseline, manage scope creep, and support engineering change proposal efforts

* Requirements and Verification Database (e.g., DOORS)

* Interface Control Documents (ICDs)

* System Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (e.g., Fault Tree approach)

* Master Test Plans

Required Experience

* BS/MS degree in System Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related subject

* 10-15 years experience in System Engineering/Architecture

* Familiarity with U.S. Government (e.g., Department of Defense) system engineering standards, product development process, and Architecture Frameworks, including Complex Distributed Enterprise Architectures

* Previous System Engineering leadership roles in the design, development, delivery, and/or sustainment of complex systems with a government systems integrator, and/or a U.S. company with a mature integrated product development process

* Proven working experience with Windows and UNIX /Linux based environments and solid networking knowledge (e.g., OSI network layers, TCP/IP); experience with virtualization and containerization (e.g., VMware) and automation software (e.g., Puppet)

* Experience or knowledge of Data Management, Profiling and Conversion work plans related to MainFrame technologies.

Desired Qualifications

* Relevant professional certification PMP, ITIL, TOGAF, Security Certifications

* Experience capturing new business, e.g., in the preparation of technical and related cost proposals

* Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) during program execution

* Proficiency with MS Project

* Cloud experience, preferably in AWS, and experience with monitoring systems
