Qualifications: Case Management is seeking a dedicated labor relations professional to join its team. Candidates for the Specialist position must have a Bachelor s degree, a Juris Doctor degree, and demonstrate a minimum of 2 years of full time labor relations experience at a Unionized employer or Union which must include arbitration experience as an advocate. Other litigation experience may be considered. Applicants for the Sr. Specialist position must possess 4 years of the experience mentioned above. Applicants must be competent in the Microsoft office Suite including Microsoft word (for drafting briefs).

NYS Bar admission is preferred. Degrees in Industrial Relations, Labor Relations, or Human Resources is preferred.

Responsibilities: The Labor Relations Specialist is responsible for advocating for the company at arbitration on union grievances regarding disciplinary matters, individual contract grievances, and group grievances. The position is responsible for managing the caseload of grievances at the arbitration stage by closing cases and resolving labor issues either through settlement or litigation. The Specialist establishes and maintains a good working relationship with representatives of all company unions and is responsible for properly and consistently interpreting the collective bargaining agreements. The Specialist researches bargaining history to build knowledge of precedents and provides guidance on contract interpretation. The Specialist provides advice for the management work force on how to administer the union contracts, the duty to bargain terms and conditions of employment, the legal requirements under the National Labor Relations Act, and obligations under the NYS Labor Law. The Specialist educates the management workforce on contract and labor relations issues by conducting formal classroom training and drafting written communications for the Director of ELR. Other duties of the Specialist include: - Advocating at arbitration on behalf of company, writing post hearing briefs, researching arbitration precedence to support arguments and to predict outcomes. Closing grievance arbitration cases, typically assigned with limited risks and monetary damages, through either litigation or settlement. - Managing a workload primarily focused on disciplinary cases and/or detailed rule violations. - Obtaining guidance to interpret the collective bargaining contract, build an understanding of precedents and practices, and advise customers on how to follow contractual terms and utilize management s rights. - Partnering with managers and union representatives to resolve labor issues on a daily basis. Correspond with union on a regular basis regarding cases and labor issues. Write communications to workforce regarding labor issues. Respond to union requests for information; objections, clarifications, responses. - Maintain consistency in administration of collective bargaining contracts. Maintain case files and bargaining history. - Performing legal research and write memorandums as assigned. Drafting settlement agreements. - Acting as the Company advocate at unemployment hearings as needed. - Teaches labor relations and best practices to management employees in a formal classroom setting. Participate in collective bargaining. - Participate in teams and projects as assigned. - The Labor Relations Senior Specialist is responsible for advocating for the company at arbitration on union grievances regarding disciplinary matters, individual contract grievances, group grievances, and companywide Rule IV grievances. The position is responsible for managing the caseload of grievances at the arbitration stage by closing cases and resolving labor issues either through settlement or litigation. The Senior Specialist establishes and maintains a good working relationship with representatives of all company unions and is responsible for properly and consistently interpreting the collective bargaining agreements. The Specialist researches bargaining history to build knowledge of precedents and provides guidance on contract interpretation. The Specialist provides advice for the management work force on how to administer the union contracts, the duty to bargain terms and conditions of employment, the legal requirements under the National Labor Relations Act, and obligations under the NYS Labor Law. The Specialist educates the management workforce on contract and labor relations issues by conducting formal classroom training and drafting written communications for the Director of ELR. Such cases typically require in-depth research and interpretation of the collective bargaining agreement. - Interpret the collective bargaining contract and advise customers on contractual terms and management s rights. Both positions will ensure implementation of Company safety, health and environmental programs for employees whose work is directed. Ensure that safe work practices are followed and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and governmental regulations.
