Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world�� s largest radioactive-waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in southeastern Washington state. The $12.2 billion project will use vitrification technology to process and stabilize 53 million gallons (200 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste currently stored at the Hanford Site which is a byproduct of plutonium-production during World War II and the Cold War era. The project is the largest undertaking of its kind ever and one of DOE�� s most technically challenging cleanup projects��"equivalent to building two nuclear power plants. Its construction site spans 65 acres (26 hectares) and includes facilities for pretreatment, low-activity waste vitrification, and high-level waste vitrification, as well as an analytical laboratory. Role OverviewThis position will be responsible for writing the Technical Safety Requirements for the facilities of the Hanford Waste Treatment Plant (WTP). Will ensure that the content is comprehensive and consistent with the documented safety analyses and engineering bases, logically rigorous, and integrated with the Technical Safety Requirements and Documented Safety Analysis content produced by others. Will also mentor and assist non-senior personnel, interface across multiple project organizations, resolve comments and ensure the quality of the final product. Will present their content verbally or in writing to groups internal and external to the project team. Basic QualificationsB.S. Degree in Math, Science, Engineering or other relevant degree with 8 years of progressive experience including, but not limited to, writing technical safety documents preferably within the DOE Complex using DOE G 423.1-1A, Implementation Guide for Use in Developing Technical Safety Requirements.In lieu of degree, 16 years of progressive experience including, but not limited to writing technical documents preferably within the DOE Complex using DOE G 423.1-1A, Implementation Guide for Use in Developing Technical Safety Requirements.
Salary and grade commensurate with experience and education. Additional InformationMinimum QualificationsExperience and/ or familiarity with the following:
Working in the functional areas of nuclear safety or engineering in Hazard Category 2 and 3 DOE Complex Facilities.Knowledge and application of DOE-STD-3009-94, Preparation Guide for U.S. Department of Energy NonReactor Nuclear Facility Documented Safety Analyses.Proficient in use of Microsoft office products (i.e., Word, Powerpoint, Excel)Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check. Preferred QualificationsExperience working with Bechtel EDPIs and other Bechtel policies and procedures.
Possess the legal right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship. Positions located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) work a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:
30 am to 5:
00 pm. All other work locations (Richland WA, Oakland CA and Frederick MD) work a 9-80�� s schedule, M-F 7:
00 am to 4:
30 pm with alternating Fridays off.
