Job Description
Dow Corning seeks a UNIX Infrastructure Engineer to be responsible for the design, build, implementation and support of UNIX infrastructure that support Dow Corning's enterprise applications. This role will work in a team of 6 UNIX professionals dedicated to engineering and supporting a Data Center of over 100 virtual servers running LINUX, Solaris, documentum and SAP.
As a UNIX Infrastructure Engineer at Dow Corning you will be responsible for the on-going support of our UNIX environment as well as the design and implementation of new technologies. You will be responsible for the delivery of complex UNIX infrastructure projects using Dow Corning's project methodology. You will be responsible to develop, document, recommend and communicate plans for investing in future IT infrastructure including the migration to a next generation platform. This will involve a Data Center re-design that includes the migration from SUN hardware and software to HP hardware and LINUX.
In addition to the design and implementation work you will also be responsible for the on-going support and administration of our UNIX environment. You will develop and implement methods to measure and report infrastructure performance and reliability. You will provide support by answering help desk tickets, answering operational requests and also being on call on a 24x7 rotational basis. The UNIX systems administrator will also be responsible for disaster recovery planning and testing as well as well as performing pro-active maintenance and improvements.
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field with a minimum of 7+ years UNIX Administration experience is required. The selected candidate must have experience administering and supporting Redhat/SUSE LINUX or Solaris. Experience with VMWare to virtualize UNIX is also required. Experience with Sun/HP hardware and blade hardware is required. Understanding of Enterprise Storage, Fibre Channel SAN switches, Backup and Recovery technologies in a UNIX environment is required. The selected candidate must be proficient at UNIX Scripting such as Perl/Bourne/ Korn Shell scripting is required.
In addition, the selected candidate must have excellent troubleshooting skills and be able to work in a fast pace environment with changing priorities.
