Job Description

The Engineering Science Division of Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA), a contract organization located at the Air Force Research Laboratory at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, is seeking a Staff Chemical Engineer or Staff Biological Engineer to lead a one-year term effort to develop a process to efficiently grow, harvest and convert biomass, especially algae, into useful energy. In addition, the chosen candidate is expected to possess a wide knowledge and maintain a broad research base in other areas of alternative energy processes (i.e. waste to energy, solar, wind, ocean, energy, etc.). 

The successful candidate must have or be pursuing an advanced degree in Chemical or Biological Engineering, or a closely related field. Requires Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, and two to four years of related experience. Previous experience in growth, harvesting or conversion of energy related biomass preferred. The candidate must be able to demonstrate project leadership and technical qualifications, including technical writing, for the position. This opportunity is ideal for a current degree candidate looking for an opportunity to perform real-world research while working for a year. 

May perform a variety of specific professional non-complex engineering tasks of an analysis, design, or test nature. Participates on project teams as required and receives close guidance and instruction from more experienced engineers and/or supervisor when working in more complex areas. Engineering activities support both domestic and international products/services.

This is a full time, 40 hour per week, one-year term position.

ARA’s Engineering Science Division is located on Tyndall Air Force Base. All candidates must have a current valid driver’s license, current vehicle registration as well as current proof of insurance in order to gain access to the base. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
