Job Description

Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation is a world leader in the design and manufacture of advanced helicopters for commercial, industrial and military uses. Sikorsky helicopters are used by all five branches of the United States armed forces, along with military services and commercial operators in more than 40 nations. Based in Stratford, Connecticut, USA, Sikorsky has outlying facilities in other Connecticut locations as well as in Florida and Alabama.

Seeking an experienced engineer for assignment to the System Engineering group. The responsibilities of the System Engineer include, but are not limited to: Requirements Development and Management, Risk Management, System Integration and Issue Resolution, Verification Planning, Trade Study activities and Technical Review coordination in support of their assigned platform.

The System Engineer will work closely with the applicable Chief System Engineer, the Program Manager and the Chief Engineer to plan the system engineering work. The individual will be responsible for coordination of technical milestone reviews in accordance with the SEIT project SOW, CDRLs, the project IMP, and the project IMS. The individual should have experience and an understanding of Earned Value Management and will manage the earned value for the System Engineering Integration Team (SEIT) as the Cost Account Manager.

Requirements Development includes the analysis, decomposition and allocation of system-level requirements and needs down to lower level functional and physical/design requirements. Requirements management includes assuring that requirements are traceable and that changes are managed considering impacts to all stakeholders.

Risk management includes risk identification, risk assessment and risk mitigation planning for the Program and lower level risks, as well as, coordinating and conducting the Risk Management Board.

The System integration activities include participation in the resolution and clarification of interface requirements. If problem areas are identified, the system engineering group will host Interface Control Working Groups to assist in refining, clarifying and communicating the necessary requirements as needed to resolve these concerns.

Verification planning includes the determination of verification methods for requirements; coordination of ownership and planning of these verification activities and their documentation; and providing their status.

The System Engineer will work with design teams to conduct trade studies when alternative configurations must be explored, or requirements changes occur. Impact assessments for alternative configurations will be gathered from all stakeholders and integrated into a system level trade study or impact assessment that considers technical, schedule, and cost impacts. The ideal candidate for this position will have a solid level of aircraft system design experience and knowledge. The individual will need to be able to work with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and ensure the successful integration of all subsystems on to the aircraft.

BS degree in an engineering discipline is required. Formal education in System Engineering and/or engineering MS degree is a plus.

This job requires an understanding of the operation and interrelationships of aircraft systems; an appreciation for the impact that configuration or requirements changes may have on performance related attributes, cost and schedule; project management skills; communication skills which allow relevant data to be collected, integrated, and distilled for decision making purposes; and strategic leadership skills to foster the use of basic system engineering process across a given project.
