Assist in lab management and perform experiments in a molecular and cellular immunology laboratory with some animal experimentation. Responsibilities for lab management include maintaining equipment and supply inventory, preparing buffers and solutions. Experimental protocols include isolation of bacteria and bacteriophages, the use of primary and immortalized cell cultures, immunohistochemistry, cytokine ELISA assays, flow cytometry, Western blotting, isolation DNA and RNA, RT-PCR, and gel electrophoresis. Perform basic technical duties in the lab such as logging in reagents, preparing buffers and media, peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) isolations, data analysis and generating figures.


Skill to be flexible in changing protocols and learning new techniques. Skill to write legibly using correct spelling to record technical lab results. Skill to communicate effectively and with mutual respect with co-workers, and other staff. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with other team members to maintain smooth work flow. Ability to work independently with average amount of supervision. Skill to recognize out of control situations, and notify proper personnel to remedy situation. Demonstrated ability to follow through on work assignments. Willingness and ability to work changing hours if necessary. Basic knowledge of tissue culture. Knowledge of basic chemistry and biology. Knowledge of quality control and instrument usage. Skill to keep accurate and organized records. Math skills to perform simple lab calculations. Ability to perform laboratory tasks in timely manner in a high workload environment. Ability to work with biohazardous (human and mouse tissue specimens) and infectious organisms. Familiar with proper sterile techniques. Familiar with techniques related to cell biology, molecular biology, and immunology. Authorization to work with animals. Certification in shipping biological materials.
