Incumbent is expected to have advanced and highly specialized knowledge and training to perform technical project management duties involving the research and development (R&D) of methods and systems for the advancement of understanding of higher cognition, language, and consciousness at UCLA's Monti Lab. Under the general direction of the Principal Investigator (PI) and head of this research laboratory, is responsible for initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing the work of the PI and research teams using disciplined project management methods and procedures. In close consultation with the PI and co-investigators, assures that defined research objectives and hypotheses are executed, including research procedures, experimental design and statistical methods, sampling or experimental design and number of replicates, measurements to be taken and units of observation, control of border effects, assuring that the outlines of statistical analyses to be performed and suitable measurement and control of bias in data collection are firmly in place. Working with the PI, makes significant and original contributions to the research as well as methods. The position also will be expected to train and orient other members of the Monti Lab research team and serve as the subject matter expert for investigating new methodologies and developing protocols for additional behavioral tests as needed. The employee is expected to work at a fast-pace and learn new techniques without supervision, often only with the guidance of descriptions in research papers. The incumbent also will be expected to lead not only the development and execution of projects using a disciplined project management approach but also writing and dissemination of the projects' results, in the form of authorship and slide presentations.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION
Significant experience in the areas of quantitative measurement and data analysis expertise in the area of brain research, including a demonstrated track record of implementing established, as well as developing and applying innovative techniques for measuring, analyzing, and reporting
Advanced knowledge and training in neuroscience, with significant experience in research and statistical analysis
Significant experience with experimental design as applied in the social sciences, particularly methodology in the field of Imaging and Neuroscience.
Knowledgeable in the domain of disorders of consciousness and MR-based methods applied to them.
Demonstrated experience managing complex projects, using project management methods guiding research projects from inception to successful completion, making coordinated use of processes and systems to guide teams to successfully perform duties and responsibilities according to schedule and plan, including skill in establishing priorities which accurately reflect relative importance of job duties of self and in relation to research team members
Documented proficiency with FSL neuroimaging suite
Experience with the following imaging systems: Bruker 7T, Siemens 1.5 and 3T
Proficiency with the UNIX environment (bash, sh, shells
Programming experience in UNIX (sh/csh), SAS (Statistical Analysis Software), c/c++, MATLAB, SPSS, STATA, visual basic, html, xml, sql, postgress, access, or similar database software
Documented proficiency in Tensor Based Morphometry, Vertex Analysis methods
Documented proficiency in MR-based methods for analysis of structural integrity and atrophy over time
Documented proficiency in performing tissue segmentations (i.e., brain extraction) in brains presenting severely pathological features
Documented proficiency in treatment of MR-spectroscopy data
Experience processing arterial spin labeling (ASL) data
Experience successfully managing large databases including QC through scripting
Ability to keep careful track and log of data processing steps
Experience mentoring more junior research team members and serving in an internal consulting capacity and subject matter role in statistical analysis
Ability to work in a team or independently when needed.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to write for and present to a highly trained and specialized academic audience with the additional ability to write for and present to a general audience
Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat) ALL REQUIRED
