Job Description


The primary responsibility of this position is a design engineer for Hitachi Steering Gear Group to support existing customers and potential new customers. The duties include coordinating and completing all essential tasks and responsibilities as a team member of the Hitachi Steering Gear Design and Development Team to support existing customers and to obtain future business.


The engineer is responsible for working as a team member of the Hitachi Steering Gear Group to support the customer throughout the development process to implement electric steering gear designs. The engineer is responsible to attend all required meetings with and work closely with the customer and other Hitachi team members (including team members from outside of the US) to ensure customer functional requirements are being met in a timely manner. The engineer must utilize robust engineering tools such as boundary diagrams, P-Diagrams, and FMEAs to drive design and development. The engineer must work with the Hitachi team members and customer design and manufacturing teams to determine root cause and implement corrective actions on design and/or manufacturing issues. The engineer must prepare and present design reports internally and to the customer. The engineer must also support and implement ongoing cost reductions actions for existing programs.

Additionally, the ability to work independently with minimal direction is required as are strong verbal and written communications skills. Experience with PCs and standard application software, such as MS Office and Lotus Notes is required.


At a minimum, possess a bachelor degree in engineering (mechanical or EE) or any suitable combination of degree and applicable automotive work experience

An experienced professional with excellent interpersonal and time management skills

Possess strong commitment to team environment dynamics with the ability to contribute personal knowledge and follow leadership directives

Experience interfacing with and working with customers is strongly desired

Possess the ability to coordinate several projects and work with minimal supervision

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.)

Domestic and or International travel is required

Late / early meetings may be required to facilitate meetings with other design teams in other time zones
