Job Summary

Incumbent decontaminates, operationally checks, assembles, sterilizes, and distributes surgical instrumentation, implants, supplies, and equipment throughout the Medical Center. Incumbent maintains documentation related to these duties and assists in the training of other Sterile Processing Technicians. Incumbent pulls needed supplies and instruments for next day cases or Emergent cases (E-Cases) by utilizing the OR preference cards.

Performs all tasks necessary to prepare and maintain accurate Case Carts Incumbent operates and maintains sterilization equipment, decontamination equipment, and computer systems related to these duties.

Required Qualifications

* Minimum one year of previous Sterile Processing Techinician experience

* Current certification as a Sterile Processing Technician through an accredited organization (CRCST- Certified Registered Central Service Tech, AHCSMM, or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician CBSPD)

* High School diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience

* The ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to communicate with nursing, technical, and medical staff

* The ability to safely move heavy trays and equipment, lifting up to 50 pounds, and stand for prolonged periods of time

* Good communication and customer service skills

* The ability operate machinery including sterilizers, washers and ultrasonic cleaners

* The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations
