Sr. Storage Engineer

Location: Atlanta, GA

The Sr. Storage Engineer reports to the Director of Storage, Networking and Security and with the assistance of a coach / team lead, participates in a team environment for the installation, upgrade and maintenance of DTI’s storage systems. The incumbent is expected to quickly understand the architecture and design of complex technology solutions and work with the teams around technical problems and issues. This position requires the use of good technical, interpersonal and administrative skills in performing day to day work. This position might require some travel to support remote data centers or other DTI facilities. Candidate must be willing to provide off-hours and weekend support on a rotating basis for 24x7 operations. REQUIRED CHARACTERISTICS Seven plus years of experience planning, installing and administrating of SAN/NAS environments with large enterprise storage systems, including Hitachi HNAS, EMC Isilon, IBM V7000. SAN fabrics, SAN Volume Controller (SVC), McData and Brocade switching technology.Requires an in depth understanding of the design, implementation and sustainment requirements for Information Technology systems in general.Experience with capacity planning, Fibre Channel, Zoning, fabric topologies, volume and file systems management, clustering, replication and mirroring, backup/archive and recovery solutions, high availability, storage consolidation/migration, performance and tuning.Knowledge of storage subsystems I/O, NIC, and HBA, RAID, networking technologies including protocols, NFS, CIFS, TCP/IP, routing and QoS of LAN and WAN. Must have a strong understanding of the Microsoft environment including common suites and core applications, Active Directory, file/folder permission and DFS. Able to automate tasks and document them for others to use.Knowledge of information life-cycle management concepts and best practices Must be able to provide direction to others in analyzing and solving program and system issues and problems Ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with coworkers, customers and all levels of management both verbally and written. Ability to coordinate or run special projects and meet deadlines. Must be able to effectively adapt to rapidly changing technologies and methodologies and apply them to technological and/or business needs of significant scope. Additional experience beyond the minimum required experience may be substituted for education. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Responsible for hardware and software installation and configuration or storage subsystem, upgrade and patches; performance turning; and documentation. Uses common system operational and maintenance tools without assistance.Focuses on the operational activities, take actions to ensure maximum performance, availability and reliability of the supported platform/technology.Works as an active team member for joint success of a project, taking responsibility, and providing timely updates, documentation for assigned action items and deliverables. May conduct meetings with team to help coach and direct performance.Provides input for the preparation of the department’s operational budgets for the fiscal year.Adheres to DTI’s technical and architecture standards, related policies and procedures. Regular team participation, status reporting and time tracking. Develop technical subject matter expert. Shares knowledge and provides technical training or cross training to team members, other IT teams or business partners as needed through informal and formal training sessions.Monitor, diagnose, and resolve problems and perform analysis in relation to storage in the integrated IT environment and software. Seeks ways to maximize the efficiency of themselves and their team. Keep abreast of new technologies to recommends solutions, and deliver proposals to meet business requirements.Can quickly find common ground and solve problems for common good of all. Encourages collaboration and can be candid with peers.Active listening and has the patience to hear others out. Can accurately restate the opinions of others even in disagreement.
