Department: Stepping Stones
PRIMARY FUNCTION: To act as a Case Manager on a pro-rate share of Stepping Stones patients, conduct group and individual therapy sessions, and maintains all required paperwork on assigned patients. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor s degree in the human services/counseling field is required; Master s Degree preferred. Must be eligible to pursue a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (C.A.D.C.) in Pennsylvania or other counseling related certification. A minimum of two (2) years experience as a direct service counselor with drug and alcohol counseling experience. Must have knowledge and Understanding of the 12-Step Recovery Program. Possess skills necessary to effectively communicate with other members of the multidisciplinary /health team, referral sources, A.A., N.A., Social Service Agencies, ACOA, Al-Anon, patients and their significant others. Must be able to understand the role of a counselor as it relates to the ability to differentiate between enabling and supporting, and then utilize these skills in counseling. Possess effective interviewing skills, and the ability to establish therapeutic relationships. Must be able to have or willingness to acquire sufficient medical knowledge to explain and defend the disease concept of addictions and all the medical ramifications. Must be, or be able to become, certified in Pennsylvania Client Placement Criteria. Knowledge of DSM-IV diagnostic codes and axes. Professional documentation skills must ensure appropriateness for the intensity of service in a timely and efficient manner and reflect the assessment and planning for each patient s care. Ability to make decisions and exercise sound judgment in the interest of the welfare of the patient.
