UNIT DESCRIPTION:
The Telemetry Unit is a 25-bed unit. This team-oriented unit provides a wide variety of Medical/Surgical and diagnostic services to a diverse cardiac population (i.e., congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, respiratory compromise and dysrhythmias. The unit also provides care for those patients under going electrophysiology studies, cardiac catheterization (including interventional care) and open-heart surgery. The skills learned here set the groundwork for advancement to critical care.



Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Supervisor of Nursing Unit will, in accordance with the hospital policies and procedures, coordinate and supervise the planning and implementation of, and the intra and interdepartmental activities of the unit. The Supervisor of Nursing Unit is responsible for an awareness of patient conditions and problems, and for maintaining an acceptable level of nursing care on the unit.
Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Supervisor of Nursing Unit will, in accordance with the hospital policies and procedures, coordinate and supervise the planning and implementation of, and the intra and interdepartmental activities of the unit. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Required: Graduation from an NLN school of professional nursing. A minimum of 6 months experience as a staff nurse. Experience as a relief charge nurse.
PREFERRED: Completion of or actively pursuing a BSN degree.

Licenses/Certification:
Required: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Texas. Current certification from the American Heart Association as a BLS course C or D provider.
PREFERRED: Certification in area of specialty

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Works autonomously, sets priorities and makes independent decisions of a complex nature. Interfaces directly with public, physicians, staff, patients, administration and ancillary/ support department representatives. Maintains confidentiality of patient's medical records. Regular and predictable attendance is required. Written and verbal communication skills adequate for performance of the position. Written & verbal communication skills along with the supervisory skills are required. Must be able to demonstrate understanding of HCA's and St. David's "Patients First" safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures.
