POSITION SUMMARY: Serves as a liaison/educator between the Sterile Processing (SP) and off-site clinics staffs to assure smooth, uninterrupted support. Coordinate sterile processing functions that are necessary to support the Off-site clinics, which includes the decontamination, processing, and sterilization of procedure instruments, supplies, and equipment. Establishes policies and procedures that govern sterilization practices, and serves as a technical expert in matters regarding sterilization and clinical applications for materials issues. Coordinates and trains the ongoing educational development of the Sterile Processing staff.

























MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1.

CRCST required.

2.

CIS required within one year of hire.

3.

CHL required within 90 days of hire.

EXPERIENCE:

1.

Five years of related sterile processing experience

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1.

Manages and maintains adequate inventory of materials and equipment for OR and SPD departments under the direction of Director, Perioperative Services in accord with inventory requirements and the organizational philosophy.

2.

Implements and coordinates the sterile processing operational procedures with the supervising manager of S.P.D., who will be reporting directly to this management position for accountability of the departments daily operation.

3.

Manages procedures to introduce new and advantageous product lines for OR and SPD in conjunction with Nurse Clinician (5N) and Product Utilization Review Nurse (PURN) for evaluation within the Hospital s value process guidelines, including the presentation for new product trials.

4.

Implements the control of inventory and equipment, analyzing new and obsolete products and processes in conjunction with O.R., Off-site clinics and sterile processing operations.

5.

Manages and coordinates with Coordinator, Special Materials, Nurse Clinician, and Product Utilization Review Nurse, the relationship with sales representatives and appropriate personnel, to ensure that accurate decisions can be made regarding the purchase and applications of OR and SPD inventories and equipment under the direction of Director, Perioperative Services.

6.

Develops and manages systems which assure the accuracy of inventory counts and par levels based on usage and history of products through product evaluations and inventory staff.

7.

Coordinates and manages the planning, budgeting process to assist the supervising manager of SPD.

8.

Implements the operational process that maximizes work flow and efficiencies of inventory under the direction of the Director, Perioperative Services and SPD production through the use of available technologies, including tracking of orders, equipment, and instrumentation, to communicate to staff the information required to maximize work flow efficiently.

9.

Manages and develops the reorder level management system to include the implementation of par, min and max levels to ensure high levels of patient care, while minimizing inventory levels and reducing cost.

10.

Monitors procedures for requesting supplies in collaboration with requirements and assures that proper communication occurs for critical needs required for cases.

11.

Manages and verifies all inventories and equipment under the direction of the Director, Perioperative Services in contradiction of actual receiving.

12.

Serves as budgetary signature authority for items on a daily basis as regulated by Hospital guidelines.

13.

Managing of daily operational issues communicated from S.P.D Supervising Manager in a proficient manner.

14.

Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

15.

Stays informed of new technology and procedures in the area of inventory/supply management and sterile processing concepts that will benefit the departments and the hospital.

16.

Serves hospital committees as assigned.

17.

Maintains professional growth through continuing education and attending related job conferences and product shows.

18.

Functions as a staff role model by promoting cooperative problem solving, positive progressive discipline, individual and group goal orientation, appropriate delegation of departmental activities and the building of the esprit de corps through individual coaching and counseling, regular attendance at staff meetings, annual performance appraisals, and active participation in the activities of the department.

19.

Contributes and Performs on-going written performance reviews according to hospital policy.

20.

Provides ongoing feedback to employees concerning job performance. Counsels and disciplines employees, under the direction of the Manager.

21.

Acts in the absence of the Manager.

22.

Serves as a resource to appropriate QI teams.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Business knowledge of basic accounting, budgeting distribution, E-commerce, compliance, systems management.
