Job Description
Position Summary:
The Environmental Supervisor - Central will supervise Environmental Field Specialists and work with various line of business management to promote good working relationships in order to resolve problems and reduce environmental risk. Ensures various facilities and work practices in their assigned area have fully compliant environmental systems and processes and are consistently implemented throughout the lines of business (LOBs). Helps develop and implement environmental compliance programs and strategies across the central service territory. This position reports to the Manager, Shared Facilities of Environmental Operations.
Responsibilities:
Partner with various LOB middle-management to promote good working relationships in order to resolve problems and develop operational solutions aimed at reducing environmental risk. Provide input into strategy planning.
Provide and facilitate guidance and best practices which are relevant to their business.
Facilitate clear roles and responsibilities for compliance matters.
Implement environmental compliance plan and programs, consistent with PG&E overall plan and programs, to achieve LOB environmental objectives and metrics.
Work with Media and Environmental LOB managers, supervisors, field specialists and environmental consultants to develop compliance processes and implement consistently; provide common tools (checklists, protocols, etc.) and technical expertise when needed.
Lead or participate in incident root causes and actions to prevent reoccurrence. Assess implementation of environmental activities/programs and report progress. Participate in audits and assessments.
Provide technical support to field specialists.
Supervise work of field specialist and ensures consistency across the LOB.
Coordinate emergency response and works with other environmental supervisors to coordinate environmental coverage.
Ensure development plans and performance objectives are established for all LOB environmental staff.
Manage environmental budget to execute programs within agreed limits; establish processes to build and sustain resource efficiency.
This position can be located in San Ramon or other field locations within the Bay Area. Travel to meet environmental staff and LOB management, and assess program performance is required.
Minimum:
BS or BA degree in an environmental discipline, sciences, or engineering
Project management training
10 years of environment program management, which includes at least two years of organizational/personnel management experience. Must have expertise in technical subject areas, establishing and maintaining client relationships, organizational management, problem solving, and process improvement. Ability to successfully develop personnel and manage a department is essential.
Ability to lead and inspire environmental professionals
Ability to partner and work collaboratively; team player
Strong ability to use data to assess business environmental risk factors
Excellent knowledge of California and Federal environmental regulations
Strong project management skills
Ability to convert environmental requirements into operational processes and procedures
Excellent proficiency in the following areas: regulatory interpretation, problem solving, organizational and personnel development
Excellent communication skills
Independent thinking and analysis
Desired:
MS in environmental discipline, sciences, engineering or MBA preferred
ISO 14001 management systems training
Prior utility industry experience is preferred.
