Southern Maryland Hospital is actively recruiting for a Surgical Assistant to join the team!

The Surgical Assistant in surgery collaborates with the surgeon and the health care team in performing a safe operation with optimal outcomes for the patient. The Surgical Assistant practices in collaboration with and at the direction of the surgeon during the intra-operative experience. The Surgical Assistant may take a scrub role when not needed as a first assistant.

SCOPE OF PRACTICE: In addition to Surgical Technologist roles and responsibilities the Surgical Assistant may:


Handle tissue
Provide exposure
Use instruments
Suture
Provide homeostasis
Assist with case setup and patient positioning
Requirements:


Current CPR

Completed Surgical Assistant program

Certified and/or eligible for certification

1 year minimum experience as a surgical assistant in a healthcare environment

Must have experience first assisting all specialities and willing to take call
