Position Summary:

Berkeley Labs Chemical Sciences Division has an opening for a Synthetic Systems Postdoctoral Fellow. The candidate will be responsible for conducting research involving antibody pretargeting, through the use of click chemistry, in both diagnostic and therapeutic applications. This work will require organic synthesis of novel molecules, conjugation chemistry for protein/antibody modification, in vitro cell-based assays, and radiolabeled biodistribution studies. The postdoc will actively collaborate with members of the Heavy Element Chemistry Group, the Berkeley Center for Structural Biology, and the Molecular Foundry.

What You Will Do:

*

Synthesize new ligand platforms for f-element chelation and functionalize ligands using various macromolecular systems.
*

Perform radiolabeling procedures, characterization of radiometallic assemblies, and in vitro cellular assays.
*

Contribute to high safety standards and infrastructure of the Berkeley Lab Heavy Element Chemistry Group.
*

Prepare research presentations on experimental results.
*

Communicate results and participate in seminars and group meetings.
*

Assist in directing students and research assistants.

What Is Required:

*

Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related discipline, with no more than 3 years previous postdoctoral experience.
*

Demonstrated record of accomplishment and achievement documented by scientific publications and presentations.
*

Evidence of ability to work as an independent researcher with a high level of scientific judgment.
*

Demonstrated experience in organic synthesis, protein/antibody conjugation techniques and preparation/characterization of coordination compounds.
*

Background in analytical, biological, organic chemistry, and/or related field of science.
*

Experience in radiochemistry.

This is a 1 year postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 4 of years paid postdoctoral experience.

This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.

Salary will be predetermined based on student/postdoctoral step rates.
*

This position requires completion of a background check.
