Partners Connected Health Innovation (CHI) is a fast paced environment evaluating, designing, and developing innovative methods using technology to facilitate change in the way health care is delivered. As new products are developed, we conduct pilot evaluations and/or formal, IRB approved clinical trials to confirm the viability, acceptance, and demonstrate impact on outcomes in the appropriate patient care setting. We are looking for a self-starter who has a strong desire to work in the rapidly growing mHealth space, has the curiosity and enthusiasm to learn new technologies, and is interested in working in a dynamic and innovative team environment.
The individual in this position will be a key member of the the Product Development team. This multidisciplinary team of user-centered design researchers, UX specialists, and computer scientists. This team is tasked with carrying out the formative research and ideation, design and prototyping, development and testing, and support of innovative mobile health technologies. The Software Developer will be working primarily with the software development team, leveraging their passion for mobile healthcare technology, their experience leading development projects, and their skills as a quality programmer to further the mission of Connected Health Innovation. The Software Developer will be responsible for participating in the scoping of new projects, will take the lead in applying software design patterns to architect mobile and web applications, and will work with the team and mentor junior developers to implement projects in an Agile software development lifecycle. In addition, this position will enhance the team by implementing and creating new tools and technologies, both directly for building high quality applications but also in collaboration with the UCD/UI team to translate user-centered design into working software leveraged directly by clinicians and patients.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee Software Development
Apply design patterns and modern software architecture principles to design software solutions that meet the needs of patients, clinicians, and other stakeholders
Implement and facilitate an Agile software development lifecycle
Set the standard for quality code using Test-Driven Development and self-documenting code
Work collaboratively with other teams and external stakeholders to scope project requirements and balance multiple projects in an iterative, sprint-based workflow.
Learn and maintain ongoing legacy projects, build processes, and production environments

Mentor and Train Staff
Train and mentor software development staff coding skills
Identify appropriate staff for project assignments
Establish, lead, and participate in code reviews
Provide technical support for other staff involved, including research and program staff

Participate in the design and implementation of an open-source platform for rapid development and deployment of clinically relevant mobile and web applications
Define and implement appropriate software solutions for new projects presented by stakeholders
Document software best practices and oversee implementation of SOPs
Understand and implement software security principles and high standards
Other duties as requested Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent
3 5 years programming experience
1 2 years acting as a technical lead and designing software solutions
1 2 years working in a health care environment with technical/computer emphasis preferred
Demonstrated competency in a variety of software development tools and approaches
Must be an experienced programmer able to write complex code and generate queries/reports independently
Native iOS or Android experience a plus
Strong technical writing skills required, including clear and concise writing for non-technical audiences, code documentation, and graphical system representation. Advanced user of Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint a plus
Strong understanding of data structure/integration and relational database design
Experience working with integration of multiple data sources from databases/data warehouses
Strong personal motivation in the healthcare space. Professional interest in mHealth innovation and open source are strong pluses
Demonstrated experience in application development, including analysis, solution design and implementation, testing, and debugging
Firm grasp of Model-View-Controller paradigm
Knowledge of mobile and web application development frameworks (Appcelerator, Titanium SDK, Backbone.JS, JQuery) preferred
Knowledge of Git version control software required
Knowledge of Agile Project Lifecycles (XP, Lean, Scrum) and principles of behavior driven design
Professional demeanor, maintain strict confidentiality, use a high level of discretion and demonstrate sound judgment
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, while balancing scope changes and deadlines
Good problem-solving skills to identify issues and determine when to seek additional guidance
Highly motivated individual with comfort multi-tasking and working in a fast-paced environment
Ability to carry out responsibilities independently, as well as work effectively within teams
Excellent communication skills - both oral and written
Must be proficient within Linux (console preferred), Windows, Mac OS X
Willingness to learn and explore new technologies in the Healthcare space
