Responsibilities
The Special Education Teacher will support the Director with theongoing development of Pathways Academy. They will teach and develop school curriculum, lead classroom and address daily issues. In addition they will implement daily schedules and ensure emergency coverage. The Special Education teacher will provide direct communication among Pathways Academy, our parents and the sending school district. They will demonstrate a willingness to remain flexible with a commitment to professional growth. Special Education Teachers are responsible for ensuring staff and student safety as well as providing crisis prevention and intervention as needed. They will supervise School Counselors and Interns.
Skills/Abilities/Competencies
Successful candidate must possess basic computer skills in order to use a variety of electronic systems to access and/or maintain personal employment-related data, satisfy required annual trainings, and use job-specific applications. All employees of McLean Hospital are assigned an email account for business communication purposes. Candidate must also be able to consistently demonstrate McLean Values of integrity, compassion and respect, diversity and teamwork, excellence and innovation in their work activities and interactions.
Qualifications
Massachusetts certification in Special Education (either Bachelors or Masters level
Conditions of Employment
Employment at McLean Hospital is contingent upon a successful CORI (Criminal Background Check), National Background Check and clearance from the Occupational Health Department.

Additional Information
Pathways Academy is a private, year-round school developed to meet the psychological, social and academic needs of children and adolescents ages six through 22, with Asperger's Syndrome and related disorders, such as autism spectrum disorders, nonverbal learning disabilities, sensory processing disorder, socialization and peer-relations problems, anxiety disorders and school phobias. Operated by the Center for Neurodevelopmental Services at McLean Hospital, Pathways Academy is fully approved by the Massachusetts Department of Education and has a staff-to-student ratio of 1:2.
