GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

This job is technical work in a biomedical research laboratory. The research technician, under close supervision, will perform common biochemical and chemical techniques, in vitro cell culture, and in vivo work with laboratory mice.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Immunological analysis: The technician will assay samples by standard techniques in immunology, including but not limited to flow cytometry, ELISA, western blot, and Q-PCR. Analysis of samples include maintaining an organized system for sample storage and data recording and initial analysis of results.
in vitro cell culture and experiments: The technician will perform cell culture (e.g., lung cell culture, T cell culture) and in vitro cell based assays (e.g., T cell activity assay).
in vivo experiments: The technician will maintain a breeding colony of laboratory mice and will perform procedures, including, but not limited to, tail biopsy for genotyping, modified special diets, harvest of tissue for analysis, and bleomycin treatment for the pulmonary fibrosis model.
Training: The technician is not expected to have all the skills listed above at the start of employment. However, s/he is expected to train and obtain competency and certification in the above skills within a reasonable time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors degree in biology, chemistry or health science field.
Min. 1 year experience as technician in biomedical or chemical research.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

Basic biochemical techniques (i.e., Western blot)
Basic molecular biology techniques (i.e., PCR, transformation / cloning of bacteria)
Cell culture
Good organizational skills, detail oriented
Sound degree of computer literacy
Ability to methodically record data and to analyze data using basic statistics
Ability to perform a variety of routine tests and prioritize work
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to demonstrate professionalism
