JOB DESCRIPTIONGENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Working very independently, under very general supervision, executes protocols involving a variety of routine and non-routine experiments at a professional level. May identify new techniques. Develops modification of existing techniques, as appropriate. In collaboration with other members of the research team, gives input to the development of design protocols. Calculates, transcribes, and analyzes data using statistical techniques. May be responsible for orienting and training new staff.
May serve in a supervisory role in smaller lab.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Independently performs routine and non-routine experiments, which are moderate to complex.
2.Will be required to learn to operate FACS calibrate and Flow Cytometry machinery.
3.Will be required to perform routine immunology techniques such as ELISA, western blot, and basic procedures on laboratory animals, molecular biology techniques like DNA purification and cloning.
4.Maintains and orders supplies when needed. Assists with cleaning and maintaining the lab area in a neat and orderly condition.
5.Maintains laboratory notebook of daily activities including all experiments and procedures.
6.Conducts literature searches and review, compiling information from journals and suggesting uses of new techniques of research and laboratory techniques, consulting with other researchers and techniques to exchange information.
7.Attends course in safety procedures for the handling, storage and disposal of biohazardous, infectious, radioactive and toxic substances, ensuring that all laboratory activities are carried out in compliance with such procedures.
8.Calculate, transcribes and analyzes data using advanced statistical techniques.
9.Performs literature searches and helps to prepare presentations and written articles for publication.
10.In collaboration with PI or Research Manager, establishes new and modifies existing research techniques.
11.Coordinates schedule of tests and procedures.
12.Coordinates lab activities such as infection control, radiation safety, and bio-safety activities.
13.Assists in the orientation and training of new staff.
14.All other duties as assigned.
BS in a biological/physical science required.
Must have at least one-year experience post-graduation in a directly related research setting.
1.High degree of computer literacy.
2.Sound analytical and organizational skills.
3.Requires good oral and written communication skills.
4.Must be able to logically and effectively structure tasks and set priorities.
5.Ability to identify potential problems and trouble-shoot solutions.
6.Demonstrated ability to analyze data statistically and to logically present it.
