JOB DESCRIPTIONWork under the general direction of Measuring Systems Engineering Leadership. Responsible for ensuring technical support is provided to the engineering team, sales organization and manufacturing team. Additional responsibility is to work with customers to resolve technical issues and to provide support related to product performance, applications assistance, and repair items. Responsible for supervising the Engineering Rapid Prototype Lab area that turns out new product prototypes and validation testing prior to transfer to production. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Supervise employees assigned to the Technical Services group. Work with Engineering and BD in and Prioritize workload in accordance with company and customer needs, budget, and cost. Evaluate employee performance and provide appropriate feedback. Estimate and coordinate the cost and budget required for projects, achieve budget and schedule project goals.
Design, fabricate and test/validate equipment for internal company use as well as for use at contract manufacturers and customer facilities and ensure the maintenance of said equipment. Generate test equipment quotes for proposals and distribute to program managers. Provide direction for procurement of said equipment when appropriate. Work with PM and Engineering to initiate purchase requests for parts/equipment based on availability and cost. Under the direction of Engineering management, prepare test procedures and engineering drawings for equipment, develop assembly and test guides, procedures and illustrations, Identify equipment needs that enable state of the art assembly and test procedures to be used. Develop, modify and test software products.
MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE PERFORMING ANALOG and DIGITAL CIRCUIT DESIGN for TEST EQUIPMENT. Assist in defining product design and performance requirements. Conceptualize and create new designs that incorporate existing product and or technology. Be part of the team that conceptualize and propose new product sub-assemblies or add-on modules such as sensors, and other product enhancements to support customer/ market requirements. Develop initial concept designs for testing design margins and specification verification for products, including environmental and safety issues. Oversee failure analysis of systems under environmental conditions to assist design engineers in the assessment of cause, and identification of corrective actions. Perform as contributor to Design Reviews.
Develop comprehensive test plans and obtain approvals from customer as required. Review schematics for completeness and determine requirements implement along with associated testing and validation tasks. Ensure accuracy of the Bill of Materials. Develop and ensure the accuracy of manufacturing routers. Generate test reports and documentation in support of contractual obligations. Provide technical support to manufacturing and participate in failure analysis efforts. Troubleshoot manufacturing and customer problems; provide feedback for interpretation or recommended solutions. Interface with Quality Assurance regarding root cause/corrective actions for non-conformances. Initiate engineering change orders and participate in change control board when required. Provide customer with same day response to initial technical inquiries and follow up with a detailed plan of action where necessary.
Review and provide consultation with Regional Sales Managers (RSMs) on applications while the opportunity is in the Quote phase. Participate in process to review customer orders for configuration and performance requirements and correctness. Generate new part numbers, Bill of Materials (BOM's) and product configurations to meet customer requirements. Develop and maintain a rapid prototype process that produces immediate build of new products and a proven process for manufacturing while improving upon the manufacturing process.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Broad knowledge of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Associate Degree in a technical discipline or commensurate level of work experience. Experience with applicable responsibility and accomplishments in related technology and Engineering environment. Customer Service/support experience required. Proficiency in the use of personal computer and related application software. 7-10 years related experience in a commercial, low volume - high mix manufacturing environment. Supervisory experience preferred.
