Technical Manager, Enterprise Customer Engineering
AMD is looking for a highly talented technical manager for the exciting role of leading customer engineering team in Austin for the Enterprise Business Unit with primary focus on datacenter/server market segment. You will be responsible for enabling customer products using AMD SOCs into volume production across datacenter (server, comms) and embedded market segments. You will be a member of global customer engineering leadership team of high-talent best-in-class industry experts, and will work with heterogeneous hardware platforms, software solution stacks and end-applications based on cutting edge technology. You will manage a team of diverse competency domain engineers who work with customers, field teams and AMD internal technical experts to ensure the best possible customer solution, differentiation through best platform entitlement of AMD solution. Based on learning from customer product execution, you will also provide ongoing feedback to influence the AMD technology and product roadmap planning.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage customer engineering team enabling top-notch customer experience through good QoS for the complex technical problems and achieving maximum platform entitlement.
- Mentor and grow the team's capability with key skills/technology and hire top talent as necessary to support and scale business.
- Lead the complex problem solving and debug efforts through multi-people/party steering of tiger teams, hands-on work as well as program managing the effort end-to-end.
- Work with potential customers in driving the design win through system SW and specific server workload analyses and performance optimizations there-of.
- Develop the local team to become the top-notch competency center for the depth and breadth of competencies in SoC knowledge and complex debugging, platformHW and integration, system SW performance and workload analysis and other critical software domains.
-Own and drive the team metrics of productivity and responsiveness by deploying efficiency initiatives, crafting light weight processes and building a culture of individual empowerment and accountability.
-Manage the partnership with 3rd party companies for capacity and capability enhancement in niche technical areas coming out of business needs and identified by you.
-Drive execution excellence in the local team as well as collaborate and work with other customer engineering managers, customer program managers and business managers, field-engineering teams to make right prioritization calls and customer communication.
- Build and drive engineering relationship with different domain subject matter experts in IP design, SW development, HW development, Power Performance Debugging, Silicon debug etc. in other R&D and BU teams and put together a model of expertise sharing in a collaborative model.
-Augment AMD customer solutions with technical collateral, such as application note documentation, user guide on customization and tuning, sample/reference code and debugging/profiling tools, FAE and customer trainings to enable easy productization of customer systems.
-Train and enable ecosystem partners with critical knowledge of AMD technologies and platforms and drive best practices to reduce time-to-revenue and scale business
-Provide product and technology influential feedback into Embedded product management, Embedded Systems and SW efforts, and AMD technology and product planning
-Provide business critical engineering enablement for business development and sales engagements to enable D-Win expansion.
-Engineering degree in CS or EE with 12+ years of relevant experience.
-Strong technical skills with extensive hands-on background in Silicon design, architecture and debugging, schematics, PCB design, EMI and Signal Integrity analysis, datacenter SW architecture and solution development, use-case analysis, performance optimization, system architecture etc.
-Extensive experience in working directly with global customers and enabling them into production (esp. high-volume top-tier customers) while multi-tasking and handling quick prioritization.
-Extensive work experience and knowledge in the datacenter (server and comms) market segments. Additional knowledge and experience of embedded market segment will be a plus.
-Proven experience in hiring, leading and managing engineering teams esp. senior technical experts. Managing international team will be a plus.
-Specialized knowledge of end user software environments including Operating systems (Windows and Unix based), compilers, benchmarks, and targeted applications.
-Specialized knowledge of the modern datacenter technologies of security, containers, VMware, server CPUs and technology, server system optimization, application performance optimization/tuning and benchmarking, Virtualization technology and hypervisors, Database applications, power management and competitive architecture.
-Familiarity with server software stacks like CEPH, OpenStack, VDI etc. targeted towards virtual IT infrastructure, software-defined storage and distributed data analytics market segments.
-Good familiarity with server OS of Windows and Linux (RedHat, Suse etc.) and High-Speed IO (SATA, PCIe, USB etc.).
-Good familiarity with x86 server processors, silicon architecture, design and debugging. Familiarity with ARM server processors will be a plus.
-Strong willingness and adaptability to rolling-up-the-sleeves and playing different roles ranging from individual contributor to debug lead to program manager for critical project efforts and business needs.
-Agile and adaptable to changing business requirements with ability to craft and implement light-weight processes that scale efficiently and drive improvements.
-Experience working in a multi-site, multi-cultural environment and ability to travel as needed.
