JOB DESCRIPTIONThis position is assigned to the ELVIS2 contract supporting the NASA Launch Services Program. The Thermal Engineer will be assigned to support the Mission Analysis department providing insight/oversight and analyzing launch vehicle thermal environments and vehicle systems, exercising approval authority on all applicable launch vehicle contractor deliverables for our NASA customer at the Kennedy Space Center. Insight/oversight includes independent verification and validation (IV&V) of analyses, support of launch operations, and mission integration requirements verification. The candidate will provide products/services that always meet and usually exceed customer expectations, delivering exceptional experiences that create value every time.
Essential Roles & Responsibilities:
Support the Environments Branch of the NASA Launch Services Program and serve as a technical expert for thermal issues on NASA Expendable Launch Vehicle (ELV) missions
Analyze spacecraft mission objectives to develop thermal design requirements
Perform simulation modeling of launch vehicles and their subsystems to assess mission objectives
Review and validate launch service contractors system design
Perform mission analyses such as integrated thermal analysis (ITA) of the launch vehicle and spacecraft throughout the trajectory or other mission-specific modeling/analyses to support conclusions and recommendations
Conduct detailed reviews of analyses or flight data to support NASA certification of ELV
Provide on-console support of launch campaigns and perform post-flight data reviews
B.S. degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field
10 or more years of experience in thermal analysis/design (aerospace/launch vehicle experience and/or advanced degree is desired).
Experience using industry modeling & simulation software (e.g. Thermal Desktop, SINDA/FLUINT, TRASYS, MINIVER, FLOW 3D)
Good oral and written communication skills
Candidate must be willing to travel sporadically ( 10%)
