Working under general supervision, carries out human brain collection, dissection, storage and distribution to requesting investigators. Technician is responsible for maintaining the database as it relates to tissue collection and redistribution. Responsible for being On-Call to interface with donor families in facilitating brain donations during weekday off-hours and weekends on a weekly, rotating schedule once every five weeks. Responsible for brain dissections off-hours on a rotating schedule.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform brain dissection, during regular hours and off-hours
-Interacts with NIH portal and investigators requesting tissue samples, together with HBTRC director and Assistant Director
-Prepares tissue for distribution
-Maintains tissue inventory and relative database
-Maintains freezers and alarm system
- In collaboration with the Co-Directors, establishes new and modifies existing research protocols.
-Arrange for after-hours brain donation.
-Assist in the orientation and training of new staff.
-All other duties as assigned.

BA or BS Degree.
Knowledge of human brain anatomy and experience working with psychiatric patients and/or human research subjects are highly desirable. Must have demonstrated an ability to work independently.

* Must be able to logically and effectively structure tasks and set priorities.
* Ability to identify potential problems and trouble-shoot solutions.
* Demonstrated ability to analyze data statistically and to logically present it.
