Summary of Job Duties
(Note: This summary will be used for keyword search) The Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) Engineer in the Microscopy and Microanalysis Laboratory is responsible for autonomously managing the training, maintenance, operations, and research in transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and focused ion beam (FIB) technology. The position involves high level collaborative research with faculty, students, and research personnel in Materials and other campus units utilizing the facility. The position also provides training and instruction to students, research personnel, and outside users in advanced techniques of transmission electron microscopy, atom probe microscopy, and focused ion beam technology, and maintenance of advanced equipment. This position has large impact on the accomplishment of research objectives and the incumbent must be the expert on equipment specifications and capabilities as they pertain to different user samples.

Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree with 5 yrs. experience in Research Microscopy. High level of expertise in TEM Microscopy. Experience working in a fast-paced research environment with a diverse population with an ability to develop thorough training programs.

Desirable Requirements
Ph.D. preferred

Transmission Electron Microscopes
Develops and demonstrates a high level of expertise in transmission electron microscopy (TEM) technology using the FEI T20 and Titan TEMs in the Microscopy and Microanalysis Laboratory. Develops new TEM methodologies on the existing microscopes. Requires expertise in electron optics, field emission scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), and sample preparation for transmission electron microscopy. Requires mastery of TEM sample preparation of soft materials and hard materials. Trains new users in all aspects of use of the TEM and STEM systems. Performs routine maintenance of the TEM and STEM. Provides detailed training, instruction and analysis to all users of the equipment (Faculty, students, and research personnel). Is the campus expert on the technology capabilities and collaborates with researchers to provide guidance when necessary.
