Position Summary
The University of California launched the Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP) in 2010. The UC SHIP office provides administration of the self-funded student health plan which offers comprehensive medical, dental and vision coverage to students on
participating campuses.

The Financial Analyst is expected to serve as a subject matter expert in financial and utilization data management of self-funded health insurance plans, overseeing plan financial and utilization analysis, research, data management, costing strategies and
utilization reporting. The position provides analytical support to legal and contract compliance issues, as well as operational performance improvement projects. The incumbent assists in identifying program goals and objectives.

The Financial Analyst is expected to:
Independently determine the methods of analysis and data collection
Gather data and other information relevant to the situation being analyzed
Verify the validity and accuracy of information collected Synthesize, organize and objectively interpret the information
Identify and evaluate alternative solutions. Demonstrate good judgment in selecting
methods and techniques for obtaining solutions
Prepare recommendations based on results of the analysis, noting applicable
references and assumptions and presenting relevant supporting data in a coherent and
effective format
Evaluate and forecast the impact of new and revised policies or programs.

Problems addressed are of a diverse scope where analysis of issues or data requires in-depth evaluation of variable factors. The position requires collaboration with a diverse group of colleagues and business partners in a complex organizational
structure. The Financial Analyst must have strong self-initiative and be able to prioritize and complete multiple projects on tight timeframes.
