UIC SHAREHOLDER INTERNSHIP (MC-15-0552-Z): UIC Government Services is hiring for our Shareholder Internship Program, which is designed to provide high school and college students who are UIC Shareholders or Descendants of a UIC Shareholder with a structured work and learning opportunity. Learning activities will include a bi-weekly lecture series which include; research, on-the-job training, job-shadowing and completion of special projects. Students will engage in different activities within various departments that align with their career goals. Internship Program Objectives: Provide students with job skills and work based on training opportunities that would offer them a foothold in the employment market. Encourage students to adopt specific strategies and positive work attitudes in order to enhance their ability to sustain employment and self-employment opportunities. Inspire and motivate students to maximize the benefits to be derived from their participation in the program. Facilitate improved self-respect, self-esteem and confidence, thereby, enhancing their ability to interact successfully in the community. Assist in developing the professional and interpersonal skills necessary for success in the workplace. Forge strategic alliances with private and public sector employers in the creation of job opportunities and the development of the corporation's human resource capacity. Create a team of trained individuals with relevant job exposure to enable them to access employment in a variety of industries. Requirements Eligibility Requirements for Interns: For High School Intern: Must demonstrate they are \\"well-qualified\\" throughout the selection process and will be placed within the organization based upon their interests, business needs and available resources. Must be a UIC Shareholder or the Descendant of a UIC Shareholder For College Intern: Must demonstrate they are \\"well-qualified\\" throughout the selection process and will be placed within the organization based upon their interests, business needs and available resources. Must be enrolled at an accredited college or university with the following: Minimum of 9 credits Minimum GPA 2.0 The following documents will need to be uploaded during the online application process: Acceptance Letter or Certificate of Admission (From an accredited institution) Class Registration Transcripts (to include previously attended institutions) Most recent Grades Physical Demands: The office environmental conditions consist of computer stations and desks with adequate and adjustable lighting. Chairs are designed to fit the various individuals and the tasks being performed. Ergonomic evaluations are completed as needed, to provide up to date modifications to all work stations. Applicants may be subject to a pre-employment drug & alcohol screening and/or random drug screen, and must follow UIC's Non-DOT Drug & Alcohol Testing Program requirements. If the position requires, an applicant must pass a pre-employment criminal background history check. All post-secondary education listed on the applicant's resume/application may be subject to verification. Where driving may be required or where a rental car must be obtained for business travel purposes, applicants must have a valid driver license for this position and will be subject to verification.
