Job Description
Collaborates with the US MSL Team Lead to build a high performing team by developing a proactive approach to recruitment/hiring and developing people
Establish medical strategies for implementation by MSL Team, in alignment with Business Unit (BU) objectives
Develops and leads the Field Medical Team ensuring team objectives are accomplished
Define territory and staffing requirements and MSL activity plans
Manages delivery against MSL activity plans; monitors field team performance and implements initiatives to drive organizational excellence
Collaborates with US MSL Team Lead and Shared Medical Services to ensure the field team receives needed training and support
Coordinates with US MSL Team Lead, Compliance/Legal and Shared Medical Services to develop and implement policies, SOPs, codes and guidelines, and training
Acts as a senior company representative interacting with external scientific leaders, patient advocacy groups and/or regulatory authorities

Collaborate with US MSL Team Lead to ascertain and secure resources and support needed for plan implementation; makes effective resource allocation decisions and ensures proper utilization of resources by team members
Builds a high performing team by developing a proactive approach to recruitment/hiring and developing people
Creates a balanced pool of high potential and key contributor performers and takes action on substandard performers
Guides, directs, trains, coaches and mentors MSL team through: training, actionable, documented feedback and assessments, performance and talent reviews development plans and progressive discipline plans, as appropriate
Encourages an environment leading to positive performance among colleagues and internal customers, and supports both individual and overall program success
Coordinate with US MSL Team Lead, Compliance/Legal and Global Medical Training to develop and implement SOPs, procedures and training to ensure compliant interactions with external stakeholders
Ascertains that MSL interactions, internally and externally, around dissemination and interpretation of clinical and medical data and information is done under the highest ethical standards and in compliance with law, regulations, guidelines and Shire s policies
Ensures accurate and timely completion of team administrative duties, projects and other assignments
Ensures appropriate documentation of MSL activities within Medical CRM system and monitor progress
Ensures that the MSL team works according to the highest business standards
Developing People: Help the Field Medical Team continually grow through challenging opportunities so they can realize their potential
Fostering a Brave Culture: Show field medical team what BRAVE looks like by being a role model
Managing Performance: Ensure field MSLs team knows what is expected of them, what it takes to be successful, and how they are progressing. Hold everyone accountable to achieve results while demonstrating One Shire values

Collaborate with US MSL Team Lead to develop and execute MSL objectives for disease area of focus
Support MSL team in definition of individual activity plans
Serves as, and shares, the HCP and patient perspective in discussion with Medical Strategy Group in which the therapeutic area strategy is created and steered
Gains customer insights, opinions and feedback and engages with internal colleagues to connect business opportunities with internal resources
Ascertains proper and impactful provision of information for strategic decision and steering via medical insight interactions with KOLs and HCPs by the MSLs
Interaction with external stakeholders in alignment with customer needs and act as a company representative with external scientific leaders, policy makers, patient advocacy groups and/or regulatory authorities
Coordinates provision of MSL support for clinical activities and ISTs
Coordinates provision of MSL support for medical information, medical communications, and data dissemination; ensures it is done in an impactful and professional manner
Provides input and participates in cross-functional therapeutic teams
Establish and/or enhance partnerships with key academic institutions
Establish appropriate strategic partnerships with KOLs in areas of scientific interest
Represent Medical Affairs at internal and external meetings
Present data on product / therapeutic area

A doctorate level degree (e.g. MD, PharmD, PhD) in life sciences with relevant residency and/or fellowship experience is preferred; however, a relevant life science degree (e.g. RN, MS) is required
Minimum of 5 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, preferably within a matrix structure is required
Minimum of 4 years of biopharmaceutical industry field MSL experience required
Deep knowledge of MSL best practices, legal and regulatory requirements, Codes of Practice, Standard Operating Practices and guidelines is required
Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate people, project teams and setting goals

Duties will often call for early or late meetings/teleconferences
Frequent travel is required. Availability to travel approximately 50-70% of time
Availability to attend meetings on holidays and weekends
Clean and valid driver s license
