JOB DESCRIPTIONAPPLY Berkeley Lab is Bringing Science Solutions to the World, and YOU can be a part of it!
In the world of science, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) is synonymous with "excellence." That's why we hire the best - whether in research, science or operations. This is a great opportunity to bring your top-notch skills to bear in support of world-class scientific research that addresses national and global challenges!
Berkeley Labs Chemical Sciences Division has an opening for a Ultrafast Chemical Dynamics Postdoctoral Fellow. The groups research focuses on studying ultrafast dynamics in molecules, clusters, and interfacial systems by means of time-resolved X-ray spectroscopy and imaging techniques. See http://ultrafast.lbl.gov/chemical-dynamics/publications/ for a list of recent publications. The position is associated with the study of ultrafast electronic and structural dynamics in gas phase molecules by means of high-order harmonics enabled femtosecond time-resolved X-ray absorption spectroscopy. Further activities may include experimental campaigns at X-ray free electron lasers (X-FELs) and synchrotron radiation light sources using a variety of X-ray spectroscopy and imaging techniques. The successful candidate has either recently received or is about to acquire a PhD in physics or physical chemistry. The candidate is expected to independently conduct cutting-edge experiments, analyze results, derive theoretical interpretations, and draft manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. A high degree of independence must be complemented by the capability to thrive in a collaborative group environment.
What You Will Do:
Conceive, conduct, analyze, and interpret ultrafast transient X-ray absorption experiments on gas phase molecules employing femtosecond high-order harmonic generation.
Draft manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Present scientific findings at national and international scientific meetings.
What Is Required:
Recent or about to acquire PhD in Physics or Physical Chemistry.
Strong background and documented track record in experimental physics, chemical physics, or physical chemistry.
Experience with femtosecond lasers, ultrafast spectroscopy and high vacuum techniques.
Capability to work independently within a collaborative group environment.
The posting shall remain open until the position is filled, however for full consideration, please apply by close of business on October 1, 2016.
Berkeley Lab understands the postdoctoral experience in a research environment is unique. We are committed to the growth and development of early career researchers in pursuit of becoming next generation scientists and engineers. Read about the excellent postdoctoral benefits at Berkeley Lab.
This is a 1 year postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 3 years paid postdoctoral experience. Salary for Postdoctoral positions depends on years of experience post-degree.
Salary will be predetermined based on student/postdoctoral step rates.
This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.
This position requires completion of a background check.
