This individual will be responsible for developing and growing assigned agency relationships, soliciting new business opportunities and handling assigned renewal accounts. He/she will evaluate, underwrite and price business submitted to the Company within ML guidelines. He/she will be accountable for achieving financial targets for overall growth and profitability. New Business goals and underwriting authority level is commensurate with experience level.Primary Responsibilities:
- Under limited direction, ability to work within broad limits and authority on highly complex assignments requiring specialized knowledge in breadth and/or depth in area of expertise.- Viewed as senior product resource/subject expert on one or more product lines by peers and colleagues; provides technical advice to lower level underwriters.- Develop new business and new target agents by building & maintaining strong, productive, ongoing relationships with new and existing agents.- Ability to manage portfolio based on risk trends, market conditions, and P&L.- Highly accountable for meeting department goals as well as revenue and profit goals.- Act as an ambassador for ML with all levels of core commercial colleagues on behalf of ML/F&C capabilities- .- Capability to lead various projects and represent the larger team, both internally and externally.- Broader territory management accountabilities including participating in the analysis, development and execution of a territory plan.Key Measures of Success- Highly proficient in underwriting highly complex business across all expected lines.- Referrals submitted are succinct, detailed and provide a clear, decisive opinion; thought process is transparent and the risk is clearly outlined allowing for quality handling of referral.- Adheres to Business Unit, Compliance and Regulatory guidelines.- Maintain file and underwriting integrity which adhere to the ML departmental guidelines.Required Skills and Competencies:
- Bachelor's degree- A minimum of years ML underwriting experience- Advanced agency management skills- Advanced product knowledge and underwriting expertise- Advanced negotiation skills- Advanced relationship building skills, both internally and externally- Excellent analytical skills- Strong communication skills, including ability to deliver effective presentations internally and externally in front of large groups- Influencing skills- Strong sales focus and marketing perspective; demonstrates proficiency in all sales best practices- Ability to mentor lower level Underwriters- Ability to demonstrate leadership on an informal basis- Travel requiredBenefits to joining The Hanover's team:
