Job Summary: The Unit Secretary works under the direction of a registered nurse to perform the secretarial/clerical aspects of patient care; ensures optimum patient flow by utilizing Bed Management Dashboard (BMD) and Interactive Voice Recognition System (IVR) in accordance with policy; serves as department/unit receptionist; maintains inventory of supplies, equipment, and forms; utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize customer service, safety, and professionalism; contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient/visitor population. Performs other duties as needed. Job Specifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous unit secretary experience preferred. One year of college and/or equivalent experience in medical or computer knowledge or previous computer experience preferred. Able to: write legibly; speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot basic office equipment necessary to the position. Able to: communicate and relate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; accept direction. Able to: communicate effectively in English, in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; work independently with minimal supervision. Able to: distinguish colors for service designation; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to the position.
