Utility Assistant Supervisor

ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Utility Shop Supervisor, this individual will help supervise a trade shop consisting of 20-25 trades shop personnel and 6-10 transportation personnel. These personnel include licensed CDL A and B drivers some of whom have passenger endorsements, aerial lift, forklift, bobcat, front-end loaders and commercial snow blower operators, riggers, movers, custodians and general laborers. Duties will include, but not limited to providing management oversight and mentoring of shop personnel, perform all duties related to MIT Lincoln Laboratory s Shuttle bus program, courier and executive transport services and related transportation activities. In addition this person will provide technical guidance to shop personnel, estimate labor and material for jobs, research of and ordering material, establishing work schedules, assisting and coordinating work with various customers, contractors and other shops, assisting in snow removal and grounds keeping operations. Will be required to assist in establishing shop policies and procedures, entering and approving time cards, conducting employee performance evaluations, providing counseling and coaching, foster a well trained and motivated staff. Assist in providing management oversight to employees to ensure compliance with department and laboratory policies and procedures, ensure personnel are working safely and following safety procedures, and provide training as required. Responsible for all documentation for shuttle bus operations, such as DVIR, daily driver inspection reports, bus emergency exit inspection reports, passenger logs, mileage logs and others that may be required. This position is a hand s on position which requires constant interaction with driver personnel and shuttle bus customers. Q/A check rides are a required part of this position. Responsible for ensuring that all passengers are treated in a courteous, friendly and professional manner at all times. The Utility Shop is a 24/7 operation during inclement weather in the winter requiring the supervisors to be on-call for any and all emergencies during these periods.

Requirements:

AS or BS or equivalent required.
A minimum of 3-5 years experience in scheduling and dispatching of shuttle bus drivers to transport executives, distinguished guests, dignitaries, employees and students as well as support pick up and drop off services for U.S. mail, corporate mail and small parcels required.
Three to five years experience in coaching, supervising, mentoring and disciplining of personnel required.
Prior supervisory experience of CDL licensed drivers in a union environment highly desirable. Previous training or courses in general management skills, leadership, communications skills, customer service, time management, conflict resolution, assertiveness training all a plus.
Exposure to or preferably experience in the logistics of moving material or snow removal operations in a similar type organization desirable.
Knowledge of various regulations such as: safety, OSHA, DOT, transporting personnel, CFR regulations and procedures and their implementation are requirements of this position. Knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft Office software (MS Word, Excel, etc.) required. Experience using a computerized scheduling system and a computerized maintenance management system preferably SAP is desirable.
Excellent customer service skills required.
Must be able to work any hours required during snow removal operations or as may be required to satisfy operational needs.
Position requires considerable amount of walking and climbing stairs.
The ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance required.
