Job Description

Primary Role
Responsible for ensuring coordination and quality of fully integrated product assessments and due diligence of Human Genetic Therapies (HGT) opportunities identified by Business Development leading to robust recommendations in alignment with overall HGT strategies.

Responsibilities:

- Lead standing HGT cross-functional (Business, R&D, Commercial, Tech Ops/Supply Chain) assessment/due diligence teams providing both strategic and technical guidance of assessments/due diligences (HGT-related M&As and licensing opportunities) leading to robust recommendations.
- Participates in BD forums for early assessments of assets and recommendations for DD (as required)
- Within HGT, establish and implement clear roles, responsibilities and processes to fully integrate R&D, Commercial and Tech Ops/Supply Chain assessments and due diligences emphasizing strategy, quality/rigor and speed.
- Ensure the appropriate coordination of the preparation and presentation of assessment outputs to HGT Senior Management as well as Shire Sr. Management (as agreed).
- Serves as a leader of specific due diligence teams as necessary and when appropriate. Ensures quality and consistency of process.
- Coordinates and conducts DD training sessions for key diligence team members.
- Conduct periodic reviews of past decisions vs subsequent progress with HGT Sr. Management (ie 'Lessons Learned')

Education & Experience Requirements:

- Scientific Degree (M. Sc. or Ph.D) required
- MBA or proven business experience a plus
- At least 15 years experience in the drug development and/or commercialization of small molecule and/or biotech branded pharmaceutical products

Key Skills and Competencies:

- Experience evaluating pharmaceutical or biotech products for potential acquisition/license.
- Proven track record of leadership of global matrix teams and the ability to work in diverse teams to optimize decision making
- Experience in developing new branded medicines (prefer experience in all phases of development, including marketed products)
- Strategic thinker with experience of preparing business plans and long-term strategic reviews
- Strong understanding of the pharmaceutical process including clinical development, regulatory requirements, safety and commercialization strategies
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and present complex technical information to Senior Management
- Ability to cultivate internal and external relationships based on trust and respect in anticipation of future working relationships; Demonstrated ability to proactively maximize relationships to enable successful collaboration
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively within and outside the organization to accomplish the best outcomes for Shire

Other Job Components

- Timing of presentations of assessments to Portfolio Review Committee (PORT) and/or other Sr. Management forums
- Acceptability of HGT due diligence team members (in conjunction with Line Heads)
- Recommendations regarding disposition of opportunity following full due diligence (in consultation with Business Unit Leaders and DD team)

Other Requirements
Domestic & International Travel - 30 - 50%
