Job Description
As a financial services leader, Schwab helps people invest, save and manage their money. We also serve independent investment advisors and companies sponsoring retirement and stock plans. Through advocacy and innovation, for more than three decades Schwab has worked to make investing more affordable, more accessible and more understandable for all.
The firm is currently seeking a Vice President VP, Chief Counsel for Global and International Programs. This position will serve in the Institutional & Retail Legal Group within the Office of Corporate Counsel. The group serves as enterprise counsel for Schwab's Retail and Institutional businesses, providing legal support on new products, client contracts and negotiations, and compliance with existing and new laws and regulations.
The VP, Chief Counsel for Global and International Programs will:
* Serve as legal counsel for all aspects of Schwab's growing international brokerage business and be a strategic legal advisor for business plans to expand into foreign markets for U.S. client trading.
* Address legal questions as they arise in relation to Schwab and OptionsXpress overseas offices and affiliates in the UK, Hong Kong, Canada, The Netherlands, Singapore, and Australia.
* Serve on global and international business and oversight committees and working groups to identify and address risks, opportunities, and legal and regulatory requirements.
* Be responsible for legal advice to senior business executives regarding foreign legal and regulatory requirements for off-shore clients and for Schwab and OX overseas locations and activities.
* Communicate with foreign regulators and outside counsel in foreign jurisdictions.
This position requires a minimum of 15 years practicing law with a financial services company or top law firm, including at least 10 years handling a range of financial services global and international regulatory and legal issues. This attorney must offer creative solutions to senior business leaders and engage proactively with different Schwab business units who have global and international interests.
To be successful, candidates must have outstanding analytical and oral and written communications skills, the ability to work directly with senior business and corporate oversight executives on a daily basis, and manage a diverse workload in a fast-paced environment.
