JOB DESCRIPTIONAPPLY The Vice President of External Affairs will lead a broad range of fundraising, marketing and public relations, research and outreach activities relative to the strategic direction and positioning of Melwoods mission and leadership.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the incumbent will be principally responsible for developing and executing a fundraising and marketing communications strategy to achieve the Melwoods goals, as well as to drive broader awareness and donor support for the organization.

Oversee the strategic and day-to-day activities of the External Affairs function, including strategic planning, budgeting, staff development, and achievement of key performance indicators for all areas of responsibility.
Work closely with the President/CEO to establish and achieve fundraising goals that reflect and support an aggressive strategic growth initiative.
Marketing/Communications and Public Relations Responsibilities:
Develop and implement an integrated strategic communications plan to advance Melwoods brand identity; broaden awareness of its programs and priorities; and increase the visibility of its programs across key stakeholder audiences.
Professional Experience / Qualifications
Passion for services to individuals with differing abilities, veterans and active duty service members with service related injuries.
Fifteen years (15) of experience in the field, with ten (10+) years of experience in fundraising and communications supervisory responsibilities and demonstrated role as senior strategic leader and advisor.
Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing an integrated, comprehensive strategic fundraising and communications programs to advance an organizations mission and goals, including a successful track record in securing large foundation and corporate gifts.
Experience working with volunteers and promoting volunteer opportunities.
Creative and thoughtful on how new media technologies can be utilized to target audiences, increase response and drive behavior that aligns with the organizations goals and strategies.
Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with a broad range of constituents, including Board members, senior executive leaders, vendors, media and staff.
Extensive successful writing and editing experience, with a variety of print, broadcast, and online communications/social media, case statement and grant writing required.
Proven ability to think critically, achieve results, manage multiple tasks, adhere to deadlines and work well under pressure both independently and as part of a team.
Innovative and entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to think beyond the traditional.
Demonstrated commitment to advocacy, with proven effectiveness influencing public discussion.
Keen business acumen and fiscal management.
Courageous and Innovative Leader.
Masters Degree in related field is required. A Masters Degree or higher is preferred.
