Visit Mobile is looking for a sharp, enthusiastic, connected and experienced convention sales professional to lead our team of seasoned convention sales and services managers in a strategic effort to book more conventions, generate more leads and increase room nights. With a direct focus on market segments such as education, association, aerospace, corporate, medical, sport, cultural and multi-cultural organizations, Visit Mobile is coming off two straight years of record-breaking summers, with record-setting convention attendance, increased visitor numbers, occupancy and ADR growth and a continued uptick in lodging tax. Working closely with industry stakeholders - hotels, convention center, meeting facilities, airport and entertainment/activities the Vice President of Convention Sales will set the tone and raise the bar for Visit Mobiles next phase of development and growth in the meetings and convention space. Mobile, Alabama is a small city with a big personality. It is the vibrant, historic cultural center of the Gulf Coast, with a colorful downtown that continues to welcome new chef-owned restaurants, locally run shops, live music venues, attractions and activities. A great place to live, work and visit, Mobile will offer the next Vice President of Convention Sales the opportunity to really make a mark in the industry in a town whose industry partners have a real passion for what they do. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES Development of a strong sales staff through proper training in the computer system, telephone solicitation and qualifying, sales calls, bid presentations, on sites, direct mail communication by proposal or invitation. Responsible for coordinating and expanding targeted market segments to attract incremental hotel room nights. Develop productive market segments with proper market assignments to sales staff. Develop marketing plan and strategy to grow and expand the National Association Market. Conduct regularly scheduled sales meetings to review past performance and to preview upcoming projects and programs. Maintain file control in software system as well as hard copy. Controlling authority of personal sales calls, bid presentations, tradeshows, FAMS, on sites, expenses and overall supervision of sales staff and support sales staff. Provide interaction between marketing and sales with provision of requested day to day data. Sales strategy development, promotional programs/materials, advertising placement, trade show participation, all work in concert with President and VP of Marketing. Maintain oversight and continuous interaction with Convention Services. Receive updated reports from groups definitely booked, collateral provided and hosting services performed within the city. Reports to President in reference to actual bookings and projected booking of delegates. Budget requirements to be kept in accordance with policies and procedures established within the Bureau.
