General Summary Overview Statement

Dana-Farber (DFCI) leadership is supporting an IT strategic initiative to modernize the IT systems in the cell manufacturing (CMCF) and cellular therapies/BMT (CT/BMT) departments. Over the next 3-5 years a selection committee comprised of IT and business members will select and implement the following applications: resource scheduling, case management, outcomes reporting, document management, and a manufacturing execution system (MES).

The application analyst II selected for this role will perform the duties of a mid- to senior-level analyst and be part of the team implementing the above-mentioned applications. The analyst will work with department resources to develop test plans, perform data conversions from legacy systems to the new applications, develop reports (including CIBMTR outcomes reporting), write SQL queries, assist with system configurations, test application functionality, document workflows, and effectively communicate any issues or concerns to leadership.

Long term the duties of the application analyst II will shift from implementation to support of the software solutions and workflows, as well as leading small to medium sized projects.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The application analyst II will be primarily responsible for assisting with the implementation and support of the new CMCF and CT/BMT applications. The analyst will conduct system configuration, track issues, and perform testing of the new system and associated data interfaces in a complex, multi-institutional, and cross-functional setting. The analyst will also be responsible for enhancements and support of the system once implemented as well as providing support to other system needs and future initiatives that intersect either directly or indirectly with CMCF and CT/BMT. The analyst must be able to create and maintain a healthy working relationship with the end users, leadership, and other partnering organization business users and/or IT departments.

The application analyst selected for this role must develop an understanding of both CMCF and CT/BMT operations and workflows and work collaboratively with the representatives of both departments to implement and optimize the chosen systems. In addition, a critical component of the role will be understanding and supporting the technical requirements of the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR) outcomes reporting including keeping track of changes to the reporting requirements, working directly with CIBMTR staff on technical issues, and reporting CIBMTR specification changes to leadership. This role requires exemplary analytical skills, strong written and verbal skills, and previous technical experience with system-to-system interfaces and SQL queries.

Participate in the implementation of multiple systems laid out on a time-sensitive road map over a multi-year period
Assess, analyze, and document current and new workflows and assess impact to system design decisions where needed
Identify, track, and work to resolve issues
Experience with reporting tools used to write reports out of SQL and/or Oracle backend databases
Write ad hoc SQL queries when requested
Develop staging environment for converting legacy data
Assist in application configuration and set-up
Design testing scenarios, execute unit and integrated testing, and provide documentation
Troubleshoot issues with application and data interface errors
Work closely with end users and stakeholders of the new system(s)
Assist with designing and conducting training
Provide end user support for the new system
Develop downtime procedures and documentation
Develop documentation of system set-up, standard support and troubleshooting procedures, and configuration
Serve as a subject matter expert for the new CMCF and CT/BMT system(s)
Represent the IT needs of the CMCF and CT/BMT departments within DFCI IT
Participate as a team member and/or lead IS projects impacting the CMCF and CT/BMT departments

Qualifications

Bachelors degree required
5 years of experience as a business and/or systems analyst required
3 years of experience in healthcare clinical information systems preferred
Solid understanding of SQL, PL/SQL, data validation tools, data integration tools, and reporting tools
Familiarity with Laboratory systems and regulations (21 CFR part 11, FDA, etc.) preferred
Familiarity with project work (tasks, dependencies, resources and timelines)
Experience implementing new systems including writing tests plans and developing documentation
Experience with ITIL and change management processes
Experience with interfaces between systems and/or devices
Strong understanding of common software applications (ex. MS Office) and personal computers required
Local travel and travel to patient care areas and satellite clinics required, limited patient contact
Off-site and off-hours beeper coverage for user support as assigned including alternating weekends
Must be able to provide adequate transportation between work locations
As projects and priorities dictate, must be available to work non-standard business hours such as evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays if/when necessary
