The Facility Services Department is responsible for the operations and maintenance of the MIT Lincoln Laboratory complex in support of the research mission. It also furnishes the design, engineering, and construction needs of the Laboratory, addressing its ever-changing program requirements. The department's overarching goal is to provide prompt, quality service in a wide spectrum of responsibilities in compliance with state and federal codes, and manage many services that impact the workplace quality of life for the Laboratory's population.

Working in a multi-disciplinary team environment, the Architectural Facilities Designer will assist in coordination of long and short term facilities engineering and planning goals. Responsibilities as outlined below will include space and furniture design, room design layouts for office and lab applications and bid package specification, presentations, reports and product selection for various private, common and specialty areas.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for generating space renovations, ROM (Rough Order of Magnitude) architectural and/or furniture estimates, project cost estimates at various levels and specifications with minimal supervision.
Prepares and develops space plans and schematic documents using AutoCAD in support of existing facility requirements.
Develops and executes written documentation necessary for client and management approvals for construction and/or relocations.
Inspects space for existing conditions and makes recommendations for needed improvements.
Prepares project plans that include milestones, scope statement, cost, risk, and possible options and recommendations for project moves.
Assist with coordination and maintenance of CAD libraries as well as training/re training of support staff.
Perform studies and other duties as assigned, which may include providing administrative support to the Facilities Department Office as needed, such as assisting with the preparation of executive presentations, etc.
Depending on the degree of involvement on any specific project varies, the Facility designer must be proficient in communication and leadership skills, customer service, coordination of multiple projects, inclusive of Codes compliance within a larger project team of Architects/Planners, Project Managers, and others.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor s degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering or closely related design field plus 3-5 years of experience or 10-15 years of progressively more responsible work experience.
Research Laboratory & Office environment is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of and experience with principles and practices of architectural design, project planning studies and programming.
-Skill in investigation, research, and analysis
-Skill in creative problem solving
Knowledge of and experience with building codes and regulatory requirements (UFC, NFPA, ADA, State).
-Knowledge of and experience with construction methods and practices
-Comprehensive skill sets and understanding of all design phases and putting together working drawing construction packages
Versatile in all areas of specialty architectural design including Laboratories (wet/dry), Clean Rooms, Secure spaces and other Laboratory program areas.
Team experience; help develop strategies towards continual business practices improvement.
-Knowledge of and experience with decision-making procedures within a large campus environment
-Interface with support staff members including work flow from outside or internal Director Office approved projects
-Excellent skill in written and oral communication, including the ability to communicate effectively for the Laboratory when dealing with internal and external customers, vendors, and consultants
-Stellar personality and outstanding customer service skills
Develop project schedules, budgets and ordering lead times for outside resource provided materials.
-Knowledge of design, cost, schedule, and constructability of potential projects
-Project Manager experience and ability to interface with Project Managers for various types of scope of work project delivery systems
Knowledge of and experience with various furniture vendor product lines including:
-Herman Miller, Knoll, Unisource, OFS and other laboratory furnishing systems
-Ability to assess qualifications of furniture/equipment consultants
Skill in graphic presentation, including use of architectural design, graphic, and photographic software applications in particular Autodesk & Google.
-Excellent CAD skills utilizing latest AutoCAD suite products
-3D CAD representation, Google Sketchup or other rendering packages
-3D Studio-Max or Revit a plus
-Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Project
-Adobe, InDesign and other professional office based production software tools
-FM systems software
-Maintain as-built drawing inventory

Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance required.
