The College of Letters and Science at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in neuroscience, with the expected start date of July 1, 2018. The candidate will be appointed to one of the 9 departments within the College of Mathematical, Life &; Physical Sciences (http://www.science.ucsb.edu/programs). The departmental affiliation will be determined based on the candidate s specific research interests. We are particularly interested in candidates who can bring new expertise and thinking to the study of the mind and brain. Special preference will be given to candidates capable of bridging two or more fields. Specific research areas include, but are not limited to:
Biosensing; chemical/molecular probe development for magnetic, acoustic, spectroscopic, or optical brain imaging
Optical neuroimaging; neuro-photonics; super-resolution microscopy; quantum sensing
Statistical and computational neuroscience; functional mapping and connectivity analysis
Dynamical systems and control; network theory
This position is part of the University of California, Santa Barbara s expansion in neuroscience, capitalizing on our existing brain research programs across molecular, cellular &; developmental biology; psychological & brain sciences; engineering; physics; photonics; computer science; statistics; geography; and evolutionary biology among others. As an integral member of the UCSB Brain Initiative, the candidate will have the opportunity to leverage our collaborative research environment, building a multi-disciplinary research program that spans departments within the College of Letters and Sciences and across the university. Applicants for this position must have a Ph.D. or an equivalent degree in a field within the Mathematical, Life, or Physical Sciences by the time of application. Candidates may hold postdoctoral (or equivalent) appointments. Applicants currently holding the rank of Assistant Professor (or equivalent) are also welcome to apply. Applicants should have outstanding records of research accomplishment. A commitment to teaching is also important. Responsibilities will include teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels while developing an outstanding program of research.
