JOB DESCRIPTIONAPPLY Position Overview
The University of Kansas seeks a tenure-track assistant professor in Urban Planning and Public Affairs. This position is a full-time, academic year appointment. The faculty member will participate in the teaching mission of the Urban Planning Program, including teaching core courses at the master s level; conduct research in urban planning leading to publication in appropriate media and to external funding as appropriate; and engage in unit, College, University, and national service. Ph.D., ABD, or terminal degree is expected by the start date of appointment. The successful candidate for the position must be eligible to work in the U.S. prior to the start of the position.
The ideal candidate will be able to create linkages that reflect our program s commitment to issues of diversity, equity and inclusion, and will have interests and expertise in transportation planning or housing and community development planning. Candidates should be capable of teaching at least one of our core courses, contributing to one or more areas within the program s specializations (Transportation, Housing and Development, and Sustainable Land Use), and contributing to interdisciplinary initiatives beyond the program.

40% - TEACHING:
* Teach a combination of required and elective public administration courses at the Undergraduate and Graduate level.
* Hold regular office hours for students involved in classes taught.
* Participate in the academic advising of undergraduate and graduate students.
* Participate in the research advising of students including serving as a dissertation/thesis director and professional mentor for students.
40% - RESEARCH:
* Conduct and publish research (quantity, quality, significance, and impact) commensurate with an AAU institution. Research, write, and publish in area of specialty in peer reviewed journals/books.
* Maintain an active and productive research program.
* Attend and present findings at professional conferences.
20% - SERVICE:
* Serve on departmental, College, and/or University committees and actively contribute to the workings of the University community.
* Participate in professional service.
All faculty members are expected to act in a manner that promotes collegial relationships and shows respect toward students, staff, and colleagues.
Evaluation of the following requirements will be made through: (a) descriptions of research agenda and teaching philosophy in letter of application, (b) record of accomplishments and productivity included in curriculum vitae, and (c) information provided from three professional references.*
* Ph.D. or ABD in Urban Planning or a closely related field of study is expected by the start date of appointment and relevant postdoctoral experience.
* Demonstrated ability to teach beginning and advanced courses in specialty.
* Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching in humanities courses, as evidenced by teaching philosophy statement and/or reference letters on teaching
* Demonstrated commitment to excellence in research as evidenced by graduate coursework, dissertation research, publications, and/or externally funded research grants.
