JOB DESCRIPTIONAPPLY Portola Pharmaceuticals is a biopharmaceutical company, headquartered in South San Francisco developing product candidates that could significantly advance the fields of thrombosis and other hematologic diseases. The Company s first medicine Bevyxxa (betrixaban), an oral, once-daily Factor Xa inhibitor, was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in June 2017. The company is also working to advance two clinical programs for AndexXa (andexanet alfa), a recombinant protein designed to reverse the anticoagulant effect in patients treated with an oral or injectable Factor Xa inhibitor; and cerdulatinib, a SYK/JAK inhibitor in development to treat hematologic cancers. Portola's partnered program is focused on developing selective SYK inhibitors for inflammatory conditions. These compounds come from our own internal research efforts and represent important advances to address significant unmet needs.
The Associate Director, Accounting and Reporting, will report to the Corporate Controller and has a primary responsibility of managing all SEC filing/reporting requirements. Secondary responsibilities include accounting for technical topics and collaborating within the department and cross functionally as needed to ensure we, as a team, are achieving stretch goals and supporting a dynamic, rapidly evolving business.
This position requires an in-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) rules and regulations. Further, success within the Portola Accounting department requires a desire and acceptance to work outside the confines of one s primary/secondary responsibilities and to take on new challenges and to be accountable for results.
Prepares and manages quarterly, annual, and periodic SEC filings
Prepares both internal and external financial statements, footnotes, and audit schedules
Responsible for XBRL tagging of Form 10-Q and Form 10-K
Researches and writes technical accounting memos
Serves as a subject matter expert on US GAAP and SEC regulations for the preparation and filing of SEC reports
Contributes to the management of the overall Accounting Department
Manages the external reporting SOX framework, including updating internal documentation and managing Portola s SOX consultants and external auditors
Assists with identifying process improvements, implementing changes, and ensuring best practices
Reviews financial information within presentations and press releases
Assists with accounting research, including assessment of new accounting standards on the financial statements and disclosures
Assists with providing accounting support to external auditors
Other projects and activities as assigned
