Our core competencies and capabilities focus on immunoassay and molecular testing in the areas of: infectious disease, women’s health, and virology.

Quidel is searching for a Buyer to join our Athens, OH team. The Buyer is responsible for sourcing of direct and indirect material to support the production plan, non-production items, capital equipment, and services to support organizational needs.

Additional responsibilities include -

Plans purchases using MRP, item history and buyer judgment.
Sources raw materials (new and existing) and consolidates suppliers.
Negotiates costs of materials and inbound freight.
Works with Quality Engineering and R&D to improve systems and to ensure appropriate and timely material availability, correct documentation and raw material specifications.
Manages and analyzes inventory investment and turns.
Develops and maintains effective supplier relationships, exercising ethical negotiation and communication techniques.
Represents procurement on supplier audits.
Monitors supplier performance and takes appropriate action with supplier.
Sources materials and services to support internal customer needs.
Coordinates the blanket purchase order process with internal customers and suppliers.
Manages central stores materials.
Ensures proper approvals on purchase orders have been obtained.
Maintains standard cost accuracy.
Maintains purchase order accuracy.
Uses established policies and procedures to make decisions.
Facilitates material quality and availability choices through consensus with end users and Quality.
Leads or facilitates process improvement projects.
Carries out duties in compliance with GMPs, ISO standards, and established business policies.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
3-5 years’ experience in a manufacturing purchasing environment required.
Certifications: APICS CPIM, CFPIM, or CIRM; or NAPM CPM preferred.
Experience working with and/or sourcing biological materials preferred.


Basic negotiating methods required.
Contract writing skills required.
Knowledge of general purchase terms and conditions required.
Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
Experience with MRP system, e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software skills required.
Problem-solving skills required.
